new Arch install

KDE 4.10 is nice, especially when you're running Arch and can do a significantly less bloated install than on Ubuntu. Pretty sure its under 300mb. Every new release just gets more and more stable. I wish they'd do something about Dolphin though. Its fugly.

That's good-looking! I've been thinking about trying KDE again on Arch myself. Haven't gotten the time yet, though.

I like dolphin. In fact it's one of my favourite bits of KDE:

  • Has useful frequent locations on the left
  • Has useful file details on the right
  • disk usage along the bottom (status bar)
  • useful shortcut keys (F4 brings up an embedded terminal, F2 renames)
  • does tabbing in a non-intrusive way
  • and all of this in a clean layout

The latest KDE is looking good (that is, technically...as far as aesthetics, all of the DE's can be prettied). I'm thinking about trying it soon.

you sure you don't want to burn an ISO image of Fedora to a DVD?

because the software I use to make bootable flash drives is the Universal USB installer

though If there is a better way I'm all ears too. thumb.gif

Don't know about fedora, in debian you can just do:
Code:
# cat <iso_image>.iso > /dev/<usb_drive>
# sync
And that's it.

This makes me wonder...what's the difference between doing that and using dd? I mean I've seen everyone recommend doing that with dd but this is the first time I've seen someone suggest using cat that way.
