Have not finished yet. Probably won't for another week either. Really like that radeon-pm plasmoid.

It amazes me how no one puts a system console window on their desktop. Considering that UNIX redirects a lot of useful information to the console.

Personally I don't see the usefulness of anything you guys post in conky compared to console output, but I guess it's to rice up your display for aesthetics.

Personally I don't see the usefulness of anything on the desktop as it just gets covered by windows. I think you're right about the aesthetics point though.

Just out of interest, what's your console outputting? Is it dmesg or have you got some custom routine?

I agree but my console is just another window, so it can be alt-tabbed to.

The first 5 lines is from coming out of suspend, so the devices are being reattached. The Battery information is my doing, it's a cron job which just runs the apm command and redirects the output to the console. I guess if I ever have the burning desire to constantly see my disk/mem/cpu utilization I could add that to the cron job. biggrin.gif

This desktop is openbsd calm window manager, but its all keyboard driven so graphically there is not much to show. Probably more useful is to show the .cwmrc file which is the only thing I would backup for my desktop configuration.
Code:

I normally leave my system log/terminal keybound, but hidden. I don't usually need to see it. From there its useful to know how long my system has been up (Did it crash?) which kernel version I'm running (Run into a regression?) CPU/MEM usage (anything out of the ordinary? Did one of my less than optimized services go haywire? Did that program I'm working on have a memory leak?) Knowing my free space values on one of my partitions is critical (root) and the other two its useful, especially my storage array, 12tb doesn't just "fill itself up" if you know what I mean. Network utilization can be useful to know as well. Especially when troubleshooting networked applications - did it even initiate that connection? If it did, did it transfer data at all? and finally the time and date are useful for more than obvious reasons. I also have a music ticker in my Conky, but that's more for when I'm listening to di.fm and a cool song comes up and I wanna know what it is and who its by.

I do however use a very utilitarian one-line Conky. Everything in my Conky is relevant to my computing needs and my productivity, let alone that it adds some flare to my system.
