Didn't notice that, well 3.2.x is longterm. Was going to say my phone is still on that but guess it's 3.4.x.

I know that everytime I boot into windows, I always mouse up to the top left and wonder why nothings happening, i actually had to move the task bar to the top, just so that I could use it without going to the wrong place all the time lol. Here is my screenshot, the background is one i found and then added the text and logo to, and the conky layout is called colors i think, and then modified a bit, the temp display for the GPU used to work, but now that im running crossfire, it wont work if i run an xorg.conf file generated by aticonfig, so the aticonfig --odgt wont work at the moment, so if anyone knows how to read the card temp without aticonfig, can you please let me know.

Im sick of cinnamon right now. So pretty but useless in stability terms (across all types of hardware, crashes on notifications and applets) I have tried Gnome but I cant work out what to do with programs i want to minimize? Take your image for example, You have that terminal, you can close it easy enough but how would you minimize it for later? and how would you quickly bring it up again? Is it all function key and alt-tab? or is that the reason your using Cairo dock in order to control minimized applications better?

thanks

The dash to dock plugin is pretty nice for Gnome shell. Makes it somewhat more like eOS's pantheon is in terms of how you use it. There's also some extensions for adding back a window list and if you like Cinnamons menu, there's several menu's like that for Gnome Shell as well... such as this menu.

Gnome shell is somewhat workable with the right plugins, but it does take work to get things to a more friendly state. My biggest gripe is window lists... I love having them for some reason when I use a desktop environment and not just my plain old DWM or XMonad. That window list plugin though is a bit crowded last time I tried it. Definitely needs some left and right margins to give some breathing room.

Best advice is to just go through the extensions website and find stuff you want or would like.

thanks for the pro tips smile.gif

I really like cinnamon its just not 100% stable on the desktop and this has caught me out a few times and ive nearly lost data and money. On some themes it seems a lot better though ironically more stable on some of the aftermarket themes than the default ones, but ultimately at the moment it can on occasion freeze when a notification pops up and there is a certain window layout etc..

other than that it is probably the best desktop.

there are gnome-shell extensions that can take care of that if it is a concern for you, otherwise, you can simply right click the title bar, and select Minimize, or simply Alt-Tab, or Pro-Tip, Middle clich titlebar will minimize it too. I used to always have the extension installed that add the max, min & close buttons to the title bar, but TBH, i rarely even used them anymore. And Cairo Dock, just because it looks cool lol
