Nice! I like it because its simple and looks clean. Also it does't look like every neon color threw up on it.

Here's a good question:

I'd like to get my old style and functionality back, but Compiz is kind of defunct and no longer updated. It was also pretty unstable even when I was using it. Would I be able to use compton with metacity to accomplish basically the same functionality? Or perhaps another lightweight window manager? I was pretty much not using a WM outside of Compiz's built in support, and I was using a simple launcher and runner in conjunction with stalonetray to get a very lightweight overall system (500mb with effects and such) I'm too lazy to learn to use a tiling WM for the time being.

Compton, xcompmgr and the likes are only basic composite managers ( transparency, shadows, etc. ) You won't get much in the way of features.

Tiling Window Managers don't take much time to learn or much effort to use. Took me less than an hour to get used to DWM years ago when I first started with it. And 500mb is not light at all, that's a full gnome-shell or kde4+ system at that point. That's what I run with Steam, Firefox ( 5 tabs ) and several random applications uses tongue.gif I sit at about 80mb idle right now on Arch and under FreeBSD about 41mb.

KWin as far as I know, with it's built in composite manager has quite a few effects though.

Edit: Some examples shown; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KWin

I agree with Shrak, if you're looking for fancy features KWin is probably the best option (reliable, well maintained), I use it as a backup for fullscreen games that refuse to work with XMonad.

Compton is pretty good if you just want some basic features. I use it just for vsync without any effects enabled and it has been great. With effects enabled it will generally use more CPU than a WM with a built in compositor, there just isn't any way for a stand alone compositor to perform as well as an integrated one.
