Yeah, have tried it a while ago. Later I went to Fedora. Still have an Ubuntu server though.

Nope, don't really like buntu or mate. No incentive for me.

Did you try it out? What were your thoughts?

Personally Ubuntu 14.04LTS with MATE desktop tends to work better for me, but I do like the Ubuntu MATE release in itself also. (works great for F@H)

Lubuntu is a little janky sometimes, i chose it for it's basic menus like old gnome no so much it's lightweightedness, which now is nice, so i like lubuntu. i'm gonna throw a mate in a vm sometime if i can get my memory hole figured out in esxi.

I like Linux Mint. Has the old Windows 7 look and feel, isn't too bloated, easily configured. I switched from Ubuntu with Gnome Flashback DE when it got too unstable and there was questionable future support.

Mint XFCE is pretty slick imo. But I like simply... Probably why I'm on Arch XFCE now.

25+ years as a HP-UX sys admin, command line's novelty has worn out. I like easy now. Arch is too much like going back to HP-UX circa 2001. smile.gif

Arch is what you make it.

And honestly takes me less time to install and setup Arch in a way that would match or better Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora or any other distribution out there. My record for installing Arch from scratch, with any desktop environment or window manager I wish along with my favorite software, is about 2-3 minutes. And that's on a 5400 RPM HDD and not an SSD. Graphical installers can't match that kind of speed. My last Ubuntu install from the same computer took about 8-10 minutes from start to finish, and that's not with all my favorite software installed either, just a basic install.

Boohoo, I have to type 13 commands ( really, only 2 though with my install script ).

It is in no comparison to HP-UX.

It is, but I don't understand why. LXDE in Debian doesn't do it. Not even on an old Raspberry Pi. Distros based on it like LXLE and Peppermint don't have the same problems either. I don't know what they are doing different and why they can't snag stuff being used upstream or downstream that doesn't have the same issues.

It's a shame they didn't go with LXQt on 15.10 like they said they would at the beginning of the year. ExTix 15.4 LXQt is a really nice distro. I like how many of the configuration settings are in a control panel as opposed to scattered everywhere like LXDE. I had it set up but I need to reconfigure my drives with the OS on SSD and /home and storage partition on a second drive. For the moment I went with my go-to distro - LXLE. I think I have one computer on Lubuntu 15.10, one Peppermint 6, and 9 or 10 on LXLE. This is how my HTPC looks for the moment:

I started using the panel on the left side with my netbook and decided I really like it. On lubuntu 15.10 it reverts to 150 pixels wide every time I reboot. Doesn't do it in any other LXDE or LXQt implementation I've tried. I will probably go back to ExTix and try to figure out what the issue was that I had with openGL and Steam not starting because of it. Got tired of configuring things n just wanted my HTPC to work. LXLE FTW!
