Upgrading my GTX 460, who's got the best for ~$250? - Page 2

Thread Starter
Hang on think I might have found a deal breaker,
Here are my mobo PCI stats
1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16)
1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)

Note: The PCIEX1_1 and PCIEX1_2 slots share bandwidth with the PCIEX4 slot. When PCIEX4 slot is populated with a x4 card, the PCIEX1_1 and PCIEX1_2 slots become unavailable.

That means ones going to be x16 and ones going to be x4, none of that 8x8x. Wont that basically screw the second 460?

Look at the reviews on this card (and check out the heat pipes):

Amazon.com: HIS Radeon HD 6950 IceQ X Turbo 2GB (256bit) GDDR5 2x Mini-DisplayPort HDMI 2x DVI (HDCP) PCIe X16 2.1 Video Card H695QNT2G2M: Electronics

Then when you have another $250, get another one and CrossFire it
what do you think about the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102945

Not sure about those lanes, but if you are not possible to go SLI then go for the 6950 or sell your GTX460 and buy a GTX570 or 580 because a 560 will not give you that much performance increase.

You will see a slight hit in performance with that x4, however it shouldn't be too bad. Check out Tom's PCI bandwidth\\scaling review:

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...x4,2696-3.html

And that card you linked looks good too!

Found a review right here on 16x and 4x SLI, take a look, the drop is really not much at all:

It will run x8x8.. Only when you put something into that 4th pcie slot that it changes. You will be fine with another 460 with that psu.

each 460 runs at 24a so with 2 thats 48 and ur psu does 56a = good to go.

Unless you use CUDA, I'd go for the 6950.

Even at 16x and 4x the SLI setup will be better than a single card upgrade unless you go for a dual gpu card. The TX650 can handle 460 SLI with no problems, it's a quality unit.

Go SLI!!!

Just to clarify, a 460 sli doesn't require more than 650ws, well not even close really, you'll be fine.

As per your mobo supporting it, that I can't comment on, as I'm on tapatalk.
