Need Help With First Mech Buy

Thread Starter
Hey guys and gals,

I am in the market for a mechanical keyboard. I've typed on a few and I love the feel of them. However, I'm new to them and need some help deciding. I am looking for MX Blacks, Browns, Whites, or Reds under $100. Also, no vintage keyboards please. Thanks.

The Razer BlackWidow is always a good option if you want MX Blues. They also have a Stealth edition that uses the quieter Brown switches. If you are a student like me, you can get a Das Model S for $105.

For $100 I think your best bet is going to be a Leoplod. They should have them with browns and reds over at Elitekeyboards.

I'm getting a Das w/ student discount whenever I get around to buying a mech keyboard. My other choice would probably be a leoplod or choc mini. Brown switches probably.

I have a Black Widow and a Leopold, and although the Leopold is a little more expensive than the Black Widow, it is about the same price point as the Black Widow Ultimate, I'd say it rips it to shreds in terms. The only thing I think the BW had going for it was the macro keys and the programmable keys option that Razer provided. If you have the money I'd go for a Leopold or a Filco (Im pretty sure the same guy designed both boards just for different companies)

Either get a rosewill or leopold. I'd personally recommend the Leopold tenkeyless model. It doesn't seem like a huge difference, but those ~4inches allow you to have the center of your mouse area and the WASD keys to be exactly shoulder distance apart without the risk of you slamming your mouse into the side of your keyboard.

If you want a LED backlit mechanical keyboard then get a backlit Ducky Shine either the white backlit one (Check this thread to see when OCN gets them, they will be sold here when OCN gets them) or the blue backlit one from here. You could also get a Deck backlit keyboard but i think the Ducky's look way better.
