I see no reason to upgrade from my 5850 (BF3)

Thread Starter
I feel like I might be stating the obvious but:

On BF3, my 5850 runs everything on high (I know, not ultra) by default with anisotropic at x16 with deferred off at 1920 X 1200. Stupid FRAPS wont work.

I'm pretty happy my 5850 can still keep settings up this high, I have the feeling I won't have to be upgrading for a long while if it can run the long anticipated graphical juggernaut BF3 this well.

Next I will see how it runs Rage.

Are the rest of you happy with the performance of your pre nvidia 500/ amd 6000 series cards with this game?

Should I not even be surprised since its only a one generation old card?

I sure will be. Having the same card(that might clock better) and a smaller resolution will play into my favor.

Just need buy the game now though... (broke as hell)

You mean....you don't have the uncontrollable urge to turn up everything to the max?! Insanity! tongue.gif

And I'm happy with the way the game runs on my 5970. I turned the standard MSAA off as its a huge power hog and use the post AA or whatever its called instead and it still looks awesome. The rest is maxed.

I'm in the same boat as you OP. I have had the sig rig for a while now, and it does all I want it to do. I don't have BF3 yet, but during the beta it was playing beautifully (~60fps) at high settings and a bit of AA. GPU was pegged at 99% with the OC'ed 945 too.

OCN, I'd like to believe is more about "the pursuit of performance" via overclocking rather than just buying the best of the best most expensive components, and with my OC'ed GPU and CPU, the performance is right where I'd like it to be. biggrin.gif

I don't see much of a point upgrading my 4850 until it dies, I was able to handle BF3 fine on medium/high except for my 9850 bottlenecking me to death.

Well,I'm playing it on Ultra (with MSAA on 4x and all) with my 5850 OCed @ 1680x1050.
I have at least 35 FPS, but most of the time more, around 45 FPS, I wish there would be an Build-In Benchmark. Will update my 3Dmark score later.
