Battlefield 3 ships 10 Million Copies
In only 3 days of Battlefield 3 being released, it has already sold a record breaking 10 million copies. 3 Million of these being pre-orders. Electronic Art’s CEO, John Riccitiello already reported today that many vendors are already requesting re-orders. Still there are parts of the world for Battlefield 3 to be released. On top of that, it seems as though it has set a record for the best day one sales in the history of Electronic Arts.
"Biggest day one shipment the company has ever done, maybe double what we did on Medal of Honor."
- COO Peter Moore, Electronic Arts
Wow, that is VERY impressive I must say. I can't say definitively, but I believe Call of Duty Black Ops took 5 days to reach that number of copies sold. If that is in fact true, then we might actually see BF3 give MW3 a real run for its money.
In any case, these guys really deserve it. Given these figures, it's almost even more frustrating to know that had they scrapped the whole Origin thing and released on Steam as well, this game would be crushing the competition.
A point of clarification:The article says "Shipped" rather than "Sold" meaning that it is not certain yet if they have actually sold that many copies of the game. However, given that Most retailers are asking for more copies, I think the 10 million figure might be pretty darn close.
