Why? It's not going as fast as you think it is. SB has been out for what? 1 year? And CPU's are physically incapable of pulling off more than 12GHz (Hell most cannot even pull off 5GHz stable). Hell, how long have we been @ ~3.2GHz? There's not much more to do in terms of CPU's other than make them smaller. If any company should be going slower, it's MS. We don't need a new OS every couple years. Hell, if they do it correctly they can keep an OS up-to-date for 10 years before even thinking we need a new OS.

How isn't there? Sales are sales, there would be no difference in sales with the exception of paying more for R&D. So actually they are losing more money then they would if they waited longer.

Yea, it's pointless until it catches on fire or if your lucky just dies from trying to power a heavily OC'd CPU.

Intel finally came to its senses to use the same socket and make the 22nm Ivy Bridge pin and software compatible to Sandy Bridge x67 boards, and this happens to be the chipset that is affected with a huge embarrassment and SATA 2 recall bug. Now that is ironic.

The big news that P67 and H67 boards will support Ivy Bridge 22nm processors after BIOS and firmware updates is not as cool as it would have been if Intel didn’t mess these chipsets up.

Still there is a hope, as of April all boards powered with H67 and P67 will be bug free and with a BIOS update, they will be able to support Ivy Bridge 22nm processors. So once you get a functional bug free P67 or H67, you can expect to be able to plug Ivy into it and after new BIOS flash, they should just work.

This is what Intel told its various partners and this is the plan for now, but this bug can change a lot of minds and can affect just about any decision.

Intel also told to its special few that Ivy Bridge on Sugar Bay (6 series ) based platforms will require firmware and BIOS update and it also tells them that Q65, Q67 and B65 cheaper chipsets, won't support Ivy Bridge.

As we said, irony. Intel finally makes a good move and decides to keep the same socket and motherboards compatible with the future 22nm processors, only to have the platform affected by its biggest chipset recall in years.
Isn't that EXACTLY what I told you yesterday? Oh wait, yeah it is.

Your current board will more than likely support it fine with a BIOS update. Mine does.
Again, my P8P67 Pro ALREADY HAS a BIOS update for Ivy Bridge processors, and I'm confident they'll only make that BIOS better once the chips are closer to release. I'll bet your board will be exactly the same, as will all other B3 boards (Rev 3.0 or higher).

Your Asrock Fatal1ty P67 Professional will support Ivy Bridge CPUs just fine, it doesn't have to be PCI-Express 3.0 it'll work on 2.0 boards as well.
