[Advice Please]My shiny new Lenovo y570 (isn't here yet...)

Thread Starter
So, my 14th bday comes around and I tell my dad I need a laptop (I'm in the c++ division on the robotics team). His only condition was it had to be a three digit price tag (no Apple/Alienware/Sager).

I was surprised he let me go as high as $900

Anyways, I did some research, and Lenovo was ranked 2nd in customer satisfaction (below Apple). And they just so happened to have a $500 off sale before my birthday!

So THIS is my laptop.
What can I expect it to play? Can I do BF3 at low or medium settings?
How can I maximize it's performance?

EDIT: Also, I've gotten quite paranoid. My school reported tons of iPod thefts last year. How can I take my laptop to school safely? A lot of kids show up to school playing minecraft on their alienware, so it's not an electronic theft epidemic, I just want to be safe.

I'd prefer not to advise someone with such blatant bias in their sig. Regardless, look into the likes of TwelveSouth for a variety of low key, tech related "book" cases. Rather quick way to disguise a "notebook" for "a notebook."

Just my opinion. Jeez.
Also, will the bookbook work on any 15 inch laptop?

The Ideapads are great for the price that you pay.

The cooling on them are par at best. I took my Y470 apart and added new high quality TIM to mine and it shaved 5 degrees off idle and 7 off my stress temp.

The GT 555m that comes with the GDDR5, but is the gimped design compared to the alienware version. (only 96 cores). The performance should allow you to play BF3 at the notebooks native resolution of 1366x768.

I highly reccomend adding a Msata SSD to your notebook since you have the slot for it. Also, be sure to update the nvidia drivers to get the most out of the graphics. There are lots of tutorials around the net if you google.

My friend has that EXACT laptop and he complained to me that he had trouble playing bf3 (it barely runs). I bet it will get much better as newer graphics drivers and game updates are released.

Very nice laptop though, I myself have an x220 (don't even bother getting a thinkpad if you want to game though).

Ummm...? You're running AMD CPU/GFX as well, doesn't that mean you fanboy? I'm confused, maybe it's too late....

And also, it seems it's like a future build as well.

EDIT: Addicted, I thought you were original poster of the "bias" comment. I apologize, my post above now makes no sense lol. Question still stands, why does having an all AMD system considered biased?
