The new CoD comes out on the 8th of November I think. Just kidding settle down everyone. On a serious note I'd say you would really like LFD2.

As mentioned on the last page, Painkiller is proabably your best bet. You can get all 4 games for $5 on Steam ATM for the Halloween sale!

http://store.steampowered.com/sub/8684/

NOTE: i know the original (Black edition in the above pack) is good. not sure about the other 3. their metacritic scores leave something to be desired....

I would get L4D but I'm a single player kind of guy and I don't want to just play with bots.

I thought someone was going to say this. I figured I would end up checking them out regardless.

Serious Sam HDs weapons just feel so weak though. Which is my biggest complaint about it. You take that game then give me a mod to put the Killing Floors weapons in it and we have a deal. But Painkiller on the other hand looks sweet or maybe it is just that music in the background. ^_^

Thanks for noting this I didn't notice it was in the sale for some reason. After seeing the Zero Punctuation on this I am sold. I will look around and see if I can find out if the others are good. No reason spending money on them (even $1-2) if they suck and I won't play them.

I'm just getting Black Edition. The rest don't add anything to the game and/or are really buggy.

Have you played Serious Sam HD? Trust me blasting a Kleer skeleton with a double barreled shotgun is very satisfying. Don't let the gameplay videos fool you that game is not easy the firearms have some oompf.

The music in the background in that video is actually in game. Secondly the weapons have some balls like the steak gun or the shotgun. The weapons are very satisfying.

You may also want to look into Borderlands now that I think about it.

I assume that you've played Quake and Duke 3d?

^ Yea Borderlands is good.
You have to "think" a little (upgrading character powers), but it's pretty simple...mostly kill stuff, find guns, follow the green diamond

Yep, it does get pretty repetitive tho. I know OP said single player, but it's OK co-op if you have a friend to play with, randoms can be lame sometimes.

I like Serious Sam HD 1 & 2 for some old school, fast paced, cover is for pansies action. If you ever played them back in 2001-2002, the game is the same, just updated graphics. Double barrel shotgun, and rocket launcher pack some punch, and are fun to use.

I tried Hard Reset demo, but hated the guns for some reason, maybe just to futuristic looking for me, not sure.

I know you said single player but I have to +1 on TF2. On instant respawn servers you can have a great time. It's a staple in my gameplaying experience

Call of duty. Fast paced, mindless and easy.
