Overclocking Hurts Performance O.o

Battlefield 3 makes me want to squeeze all the juice I can, but no matter what variation of overclock I use, ALL my apps take longer and tend to stutter loading and in use... even though the computer loads fine and is stable, even at 4+Ghz. Windows even loads faster with higher speeds - until desktop, then the higher the speed the longer it takes to load the icons. sozo.gif
At stock (3.4,where it is) the icons are all loaded by the time I see them. Everything is smooth as glass, except BF3 which is still not bad...
The HD is a WD Caviar Black 1GB w/ 64mb cache 6.0G/s, so I don't think thats the problem. Also the load temps don't even reach 50c... I've already OC'd my meh GPU... Any direction would be very appreciated, thanks kungfu.gif

P.S. Could this be ram or NB speed related? The only voltage I increased was CPU btw, and never above 1.48v, I scared of fry, been tryin to stay near researched configs.

What are your other settings?

HT Link 2000Mhz +/- 100Mhz ?
Keep in mind that your board, despite DrMOS is still a 4+1 Power Phase. I'd say try 3.8 and see how it runs.

So yeah try 3.8 at 1.36-38 or so CPU V.

And if you continue to get trouble disable CnQ and see if it makes a difference along with a run in 2T if you are currently on 1T.

Also keep in mind, a boot after a BSOD usually takes longer.

This puter has never seen a BSOD (fingers crossed). Cool and quiet has always been disabled, and I've left everything on auto (or stock) that I don't change, the board ups voltages and speeds accordingly... well maybe not accordingly but it does up them. There's just so much stuff in the cell menu, vcore isn't even identified, I just assume it's "CPU Voltage", altho the vcore software reading is always higher than what I set cpu voltage to in bios.

Won't 2T hurt performance? why is 4+1 phase important?

What kind of NB changes should I be making?

How do I determine ample but safe voltages? If the voltage is too high, is more than temp affected?

I know these are noobish questions, but my knowledge of OCing doesn't seem to be cutting it with this rig. Should I put the ram back to stock? (it's been at 1600; FSB : DRAM 1:4 for a while, tho i don't think that's what it runs at right - the timings in cpu-z are way off 9-11-11-29 in memory tab instead of 7-7-7-20 altho thats what it says in SPD tab)

Yes, vcore is CPU voltage on an MSI.

2T won't hurt performance. Especially if it stabilizes your rig.

Try to get the NB to around 2600 Mhz. It can do quite a bit for performance. You'll probably need to up the "CPU-NB" voltage as you get higher.

You can't really determine safe voltage. You just need to keep it fairly low because the power subsystem of your board isn't very strong.

Use memtest86+ to make sure your RAM is stable at it's settings.
