BF3 2600k, 6970 FPS... - Page 2

Disable HT. Disable 4X MSAA. Don't use 2x MSAA. Disable it! MSAA gives you the biggest hit performance wise, and it doesn't look different without. DICE spoke about MSAA in their engine at Geforce LAN 6, and basically they said that their engine is designed in such a way that MSAA doesn't help that much IQ wise. I can't really notice a difference with either setting to be honest, on either my 6970 rig or my gtx 580.

I'm assuming you're not going gung ho and using Ultra? Well thats a problem right there. Lower the detail setting, MSAA / SSAO makes the biggest difference framerate wise on radeon cards...turn those off. No matter what card you have you CANNOT!! run every game with all the bells and whistles!! Turn off MSAA immediately. That helps A LOT. This applies to a lot of games...you can't play with uber sampling in witcher 2 even with a (single) gtx 580. You can't use HQ dx11 at 1080 in metro 2033....crysis 2....etc. In your CCC everything should be set to "use application setting" except vsync. If you enable any effect in CCC, you will cripple your performance -- doing it in ccc enables a post processing effect which affects entire scene rendering, while an ingame option applies it where it is needed. Big difference, especially for any type of AA.

And yes, oc'ing your cpu will help. You can easily hit 4.5GHz with that setup. Here's a how to guide with the P8P67:

I bet you could hit 4.8ghz with a slightly vcore. +rep if helped smile.gif

You can turn it off via the CPU setting screen on the BIOS.

Should I really have to lower anything aside from AA to get a solid FPS at 1080p?

Try high quality without MSAA. 2x/4x MSAA don't really look different (to my eyes) and HQ seems to be the sweet spot for a single 6970 smile.gif

I was able to get a solid framerate on my 6970 rig with that setup, albeit it is overclocked.

edit: you're on a 6990 so you can crank it up. I think DICE was future proofing by adding so many graphic options, if you have crossfire it will destroy bf3 easily at 1080p with everything turned up. Most single card setups struggle in some games with all the bells and whistles, even the 580! (ie crysis 2, metro 2033, etc!)

Your CPU is not the issue. Your graphics card is definitely the bottleneck, and the FPS you're getting is probably normal. MSAA absolutely destroys performance, and maxing everything out with MSAA requires crossfire/SLI. You should try turning MSAA completely off and leaving 'antialiasing post' set to high. Check out the amd benchmarking guide posted on this page for more info: http://www.ngohq.com/news/20747-amd-recommends-using-nvidias-fxaa-in-battlefield-3-a.html.

I've got a 6990, and I drop well below 60 FPS after about 10 minutes of playing. Something's not right..

Yeah that is very wrong. If I do 1080p with my 6990 - i can have ultra everything and msaa and hbao with solid 60 fps. I run eyefinity though so its around 30

Turn off AA and watch your frames climb :-) I have a 6950 overclocked to almost 6970 speeds and play at almost the same settings as you. With AA enabled I was getting like 30-40 frames. With it off I get 55-60 constant.....
