Card for bf3

Thread Starter
Had a 6990 for 2 days. Memory died and rmaed. I need something that can tame BF3. It has to run it well in 64 players at no less than 40 Fps. Id rather not deal with cfire/sli. Im using a 1920x1080 27 incher. Pairing with a 2500k. I was looking at a 580.

A 580 will run on ultra with low/no AA at 1080 and maintain 40fps plus. My buddy has the same set up, except with a 24".

FYI:

580 will do just fine.

If you want to spend less you could get a 570, or a 6970/6950 2gb

6950/6970 560ti/570 for max settings these will be fine
MY 6870 can run this game at 95% of max settings with 45+ fps
post #6 of 30
GTX580 will just do fine, i'm the running the game on a 24 inch monitor with everything on the most highest possible settings and I get around 43-60fps and never dip down below 40. Gameplay is excellent... very smooth no stuttering at all.

My rig below runs Ultra with 16xAF and no HBAO anywhere from 60-35 FPS depending on map and what I look at. On 64 player looking at I assume the most objects at the farthest distance across Caspian Border, it runs about 40 FPS, maybe 35.

If you go with a 6950 make sure you buy a 2GB reference model card that can be unlocked to the shaders of a 6970.

Now that I think about it, you mentioned a 580 so your budget is probably rather high, you might as well go with a 6970/6990, I'm sure you wont be disappointed.

Is your 2500K OC'd?

I already had a 6990, dead after a day. My 5870 fan is broken, sounds like a little kid screaming. Havent overclocked as i am having other problems with bsods from a wireless adapter driver. I really dont want the card to be dipping alot into the low 30s/20s. I want it to really smooth and handle 64 player carnage

My 6970 crossfire at 1ghz run the game at 110-130 fps constant

Glad to see that SLI 280s should run this very well. Gonna buy a rig with SLI 280s, asus p6t6 ws revolution, i7 920 off of a guy on craigslist for fairly cheap, so I'm happy now
