How are we supposed to know? They are not out yet, and I dont like guessing exact performance. They are already put in between the current sb-cpu, somehow I think.

On addition, please watch your words. I mind asterisks.

Maybe you should have named the thread "how will the 3820 overclock with its limited unlock" then.. instead of asking for a purchase advice.

well the thread got way off topic regardless. my video cards have nothing to do with the cpu.

no video editing,no photoshop, no encoding. strictly a gaming rig setup.

concerned about the locked vs unlocked factor. not really going for record setting stuff. but i would like to be able to hit 5ghz for bragging rights. cooler will be a h100 with a push pull setup (if it fits) in a haf 922.

thanks for any help.

I actually answered that question in my first response to this thread:

Quote:
As with other i7 processors, all the new chips support Hyper-Threading, and while the hex-core chips will be fully multiplier unlocked the quad-core offering will be a “limited unlock”. The roadmap states that the limited unlock will allow up to six bins of overclocking above the maximum Turbo frequencies, which means that even that chip should be able to hit up to 4.5GHz
(quote from Anandtech)

Thats with a stock bus clock of 100 MHz and as we all know, you can adjust that one too.
So in theory, you should be able to hit 5 GHz with a 'limited unlocked' i7 (3820) too.

I think the big question here is how a hard gamer are you. If you expect to use three screens or high res then you are going to need 3-4gpu set up [Even after the next gen] Then go for a unlocked six core (or 8 core) ...btw they only oc on air coolers around 4.5ghz because of the increase in temps of larger cpu.

i have 1 23" 1080p 2d monitor. its an excellent monitor. multi monitor setups are to rich for my blood.

i will be running a H100 watercooling setup. swapping stock fans on the cooler for 2 NVXT FX 120mm fans. 4.8 h20 pressure. along with many high-po case fans. ill have more troubles with the 460's. i plan to try to push them close to 900mhz on the cores..

is it the best cooling solution for a 3930k OC build? maybe not. but it will suit my needs just fine.

*cough*

$900

*cough*

Not US prices, and before *official* launch. Hope the price goes down for you.

EDIT: and possibly fake pricing.
