So yes, X79 will have PCIe gen 3, but not until end of year 2012.

X79 will game just as well as Z68/Z78, which is the problem. Also, OP wants high overclocks. High overclocks are harder to come by with more cores, and the X79 previews that have been shown only offer comparable to worse overclocks than a 2700k (on 6 core procs). For games, there is absolutely no reason to get 6 cores.

The single best gaming combo you can possibly build for the next 4-5 months is a 2500k/2700k mated to a high-end Z68 with tri-sli 3gb 580's running NV surround providing you want Intel/Nvidia. Without surround, you do see more gains than the 580s by going for quad-sli 590s. I can't remember whether or not quad sli 580s are possible on 1155.

At first glance we see that ASRock has kept their black PCB found on their Extreme4 motherboards, but done away with the blue and white accents in favour of red and black – a welcomed change in our opinion. With regards to PCI slot layout we have three physical x16 slots, two x1 slots as well as two legacy PCI slots. Again, please note that all of these motherboards are full PCIe Express 3.0-equipped.

read moar.

future proof. period. thats the reason.

LMAO, the irony..

Refuses to get a much cheaper 2500k, because its "old" hardware eventhough it would perform exactly SAME in gaming as a 3930k, yet recently bought a pair of 460's because they're cheaper... that... doesn't make sense.

So to get this straight:
You want to spend an extra 400$ for a CPU that will make NO difference in gaming, yet don't want to spend an extra 100$ for SLI 560 Ti's which are essentially 25-30% faster...

EPIC FAIL

You are an epic fail, he wants kepler so why would he spend more right now? Two 460's satisfy his needs for now. And actually the funny part is the new 2011 processors are rocking the socks off Sandy Bridge, and overclock just as well. End of story 2011 is going to be better in any sense of the word

its not 400 bucks i donno where you guys are pulling this **** out your ass from.

the 3930k is 200 bucks more then a 2600k. newegg lists the 2600k for 320. the new 3930k will be right around 500.

And a 2500k would satisfy his needs aswell, seeing how it will perform equally with a SB-E 6-core in games. Still a fail, sorry.

I lol'd.

In terms of the 6-core in highly threaded applications yes.
But in gaming which is the only application the OP is gonna use it for?
No.

Read again, I was obviously talking about the 2500k which is 210-220$.
And the 3930k is going to be 570$ and not 500, so yeah, thats pretty close to 400$ I'd say.

Btw I plan to upgrade to 2011 too when Kepler releases. I was going to get into X58 but it was already getting replaced when I got into building a new computer so I stuck with Sandy Bridge because it was a workaround until the next gen comes out. I want enthusiast just like him. Why? Because it's better, my computer can run tasks in the background while I game so that's a benefit right there. This really shouldn't involve the Sandy Bridge line at all, it should involve 1366 because that's the two that go head to head because those are the enthusiast level processors. And btw a 2700K is stupid to waste money on unless you are just that dumb. It's a 2600K that's all it is. Same as Bulldozer it's a quad core btw, AMD has yet to make an 8 core, it's 4 cores with hyper threading.

Sorry for the hijack Tokey
