capped at 40fps? BF3 related...

Hi guys,

I'm capped at 40-41fps and it won't go higher. Doesn't matter if I have it on low setting or ultra. On Ultra i get 30-40fps. On low setting it's 35-40.

Does this mean my gpu isn't good enough or my cpu?

I'm on a 955be @3.9ghz and a hd6950 clocked to 840mhz/1325mhz +20% power using catalyst.

I just switched my 6950 to 6970 mode and upped it to 925mhz and 1395mhz memory. Still capped at 40fps...

Does this have anything to do with my power supply? I have a thermaltake 600watt.

Hmm I am in the same boat kinda. Do you have Vsync enabled? I know its supposed to cap at your monitor hertz but I have not tested taking it off. I have a 6950 bios unlocked to 6970 at stock 6970 specs. On ultra I seem to run at 30-38 FPS and never higher. I will keep trying to break this mark. Also try taking off Vsync

sounds like a problem with your CPU. seeing as how we have nearly identical systems...i'll say that even with a phenom, you should be getting better performance.

For reference, I play on the High Preset at 1152*864 and i get around 70FPS. My CPU usage hovers around 80%, RAM at 75%, and GPU at 90% or so.

Try turning off MSAA. I gained ~20 fps when I turned it off on ultra, and not much IQ loss.

Don't worry its not hardware related. I've been sorta capped at 40fps (though I played for only 5 minutes).

I don't know why people are saying your stuff is broken, that's a load of crap.
A single HD6950/6970 isn't enough to run BF3 maxed out at 60FPS, 1920x1080.
2 HD6950/6970's in crossfire will go to 60FPS, but unless you lower your settings/resolution you're not gonna hit 60FPS maxed out without a second card.
The only times I've seen the game run 60+FPS with a single card is when looking at the floor.

Speaking from experience of having 2 HD6950's and crossfire not working sometimes with BF3 haha.

a 570 can pull off 60fps on ultra with no aa at 1080p with a slight hiccup here and there, the only thing that i can think of that's hindering the op's performance is an unstable overclock or vsync is enabled (vsync seeming more likely since if it can't sustain refresh rate speed it lowers to the average and sustains there)
