How Low Should I Go?

Thread Starter
Hey all,
I am currently working on overclocking my system. I read in one of the stickies that 1600 is the ideal speed for AMD builds, but someone else told me to drop it to 1066. Anyone able to shed some light? Will I still be able to get a high cpu frequency at 1600? Is it better to have low ram speeds with tighter timings and higher cpu frequency, or vice versa?

If your RAM is speced for 1600 run it at that speed. Since you have a BE chip you can set divider for 1600mhz, and raise your multi to whatever you can get your CPU to safely with your cooling and voltage allowed. You can OC the bus on it also in that case just adjust multi on RAM to give you around 1600mhxz.

Lower speed and tighter times can help to a certain degree. However unless your going for highest benches I would just run your rated speeds/timings or as close as you can get with your desired overclock.

Do I want to get the ram tight and then mess with the CPU, or vice versa?

I would get your highest CPU overclock and then mess with RAM IMO.
