ATI 5850 DVI port? Monitor no signal.

First off I'd like to say I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong section. If that is the case can an admin please move to the correct location on these forums. I hate coming into a new community and just ask for help but I am nothing but frustrated right now. I don't know what else to do and it's getting late.

I made my build 7-8 months ago. I have an ATI 5850 which I use my TV as a monitor, connecting it with an HDMI cable. Everything has been working perfectly. I bought myself a monitor today but being plugged in as DVI to either the mobo or the video card the monitor does not receive a signal. Tried using a VGA cable, connecting it straight to the mobo, no luck as well. Can anyone please help me. I read through google and found out that the 5850 does have defects with the DVI inputs but if that's the case is there any possibility to make it work with the VGA?

Sorry for the lack of specs from my pc, if you need anything in particular please ask so I can give you more information.

ATI / AMD build.

Thanks in advance.

This is a strange issue. If you have the video card installed, it will override an integrated video and disable it. So you will not get a signal from the DVI on the motherboard.

I asume you have the TV still hooked up and on. Can you pull up ATI's Catalyst Control Center (CCC) and see if you can see there are 2 monitors listed? If you are using the latest 11.9 drivers, it should be listed under the "Desktops and Displays" section.

Wow. I updated my CCC. And I got to extend my display to my monitor just fine. Must've been a driver issue. :/ Thank you so much.

No problem. I'm glad you got it fixed, and decided to sign up on OCN to get actively involved (even if it was just this issue... come back any time)!

If you want to stick around, you should go here and fill out your system specs. Its always nice to see what people are running, and makes it easy to help in the future:
