Worth getting BF3 with this setup?

My brother wants to get BF3 but hes not sure it's worth it with his current comp, I thought I would get your opinions on the matter to help him decide. He currently has a GTX 285, 8 gigs DDR3 1600,and a 2500k at 4.0, how well do you think this would perform at 1080p on higher settings? And would it be worth buying the game prior to a new GPU.

He wouldn't be able to play it on Ultra. He might be able to get away with playing on High with low AA / AF as well as other miscellaneous settings.

Only weak link is the gpu. He would run it on medium / high. Definitely worth it.

Here's a great link to over 30 GPUs tested for BF3. Gives nice benchmarks for each card.

GTX 285 maximum supporting DX10/SM 4.0. Ultra requires DX11.

i can't play on medium or high at 1920x1080 in multiplayer with my old EVGA GTX 285 SC... i get major FPS drops when there are big explosions even with AA off. can only do decently well on low settings.
