Upgrade to EVGA GTX 580 ? Yay or nay ?

Thread Starter
So I currently have a Asus 6950 1gb crossfire in my system and was looking at upgrading to the EVGA GTX 580 3gb Hydro Copper card for my watercooling system soon to come as well.

Should I stick with my cards now or upgrade ?

single or sli?
I am not sure if it's really an upgrade if you will be running 580 single...

Single for the time being, then I'll be getting another one later. Because I don't think the 1gb graphics cards I have now have enough VRAM for future games. Hence why I want the gtx 580 3gb. What do you think ?

First off, why would you want to switch out of your two AMD 6950's? That's some great performance already. Single monitor with 1GB crossfired your still going to do fine. Keep them until they've come to the end of their life when gaming catches up and you feel FPS drop.

I'd say wait. Next gen cards will be coming out in the next few months. After they come out, you'll be able to ascertain by reading up on reviews how they compare etc.

Your going to find out if the new 28nm fabrication is better or not, with over clocking, performance etc. I'm betting even then your two AMD 6950's are going to be great.

You may be happy having waited and at least given yourself the choice if it's worth it or not.

Don't make a move until games actually do get more VRAM heavy and your crossfire set up feels it. Just practical.

I agree, no reason to upgrade at the moment. Just hold off until the next gen shows up here in a couple months.

Wait for next gen of Nvidia and AMD...
