[CPU World] Xeon E5 Pricing

In the first half of 2012 Intel will introduce Xeon E5 server chips for single-, dual-core and quad-processor servers. The first two E5 families, coming in Q1 2012, are E5-1600 and E5-2600 series for socket 2011 platform. We already published CPU line-ups for both E5 subfamilies, and we reported on Xeon E5-1600 launch prices. We also recently learned about Xeon E5-2600 prices.
Source: http://www.cpu-world.com/news_2011/2...ries_CPUs.html

Bit heavier on the wallet than the Westmere Xeons at the high end from the looks of things. The lower end has some EXTREMELY reasonably priced 6C processors though.

One weird thing I can't wrap my head around:
4C 4T @ 1.8 GHz, 80W = $202
2C 2T @ 3 GHz, 80W = $884

The distilled info for SR3 owners basically boils down to this for the 8C models; based on the information so far that BCLK options are 100MHz, 133MHz and 166MHz:
  • 4.3 GHz = $1552 @115W
  • 4.5 GHz = $1723 @130W
  • 4.8 GHz = $2057 @135W
  • 5.2 GHz = $1885 @150W

Those are base clock wattages of course.

Once launched, the E5-2600 family will replace Xeon 5600 series, and it's no surprise that the pricing of upcoming microprocessors is comparable to pricing of current Xeon 5600 chips with similar characteristics.
They are a bit more expensive than Westmere based Xeons with similar specs.

According to the link, the Xeon E5-2640 is as follows:

6122.5 GHz15 MB95 Watt$884

And the Xeon E5-2630is as follows:

6122.3 GHz15 MB95 Watt$612

Whereas on Newegg, the E5645: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819117256

5645 Westmere-EP 2.4GHz:

6 12 2.4 GHz 12 MB 80 Watt $559.99

If the prices from the source are credible, they do cost more and have lower clock speeds, as well as a higher TDP.

Hopefully this drives 1366 xeon prices down. My dream of an X8DTG-QF based build comes ever closer.

Maybe this will lower the E5620 price so I can have a SR-2 folding machine! There still $390 :/

Since there pricing these Xeon's so much higher only the elite could afford 2 and the SR-3.

I've contemplated the same thing. I run BOINC 24/7 on my CPU. It is cheaper to buy a 6 core CPU and overclock it than 2 buy two 4 core CPUs and overclock them. The SR-2 is very expensive, and the cost of two E5620s or E5630s costs more than an i7 980, which should easily clock past 4 GHz.

SR-2s are known for not going over 200 MHz. E5620s have a CPU CLK MULT of x18 and so 3.6 GHz appears to be a best case scenario. Now, if you purchased an i7 980 and a decent X58 board, you could easily hit 4.0 if not ~4.3-4.4 GHz and destroy the E5620s in raw performance at a much lower price. Let's also not forget that SNB-E comes out in a few weeks. SR-2 is cool, but best with 6 core Xeons.

True there is a bclck limit on the SR-2 board sadly, I already have a E5620 and considered the SR-2 or just buying another X58 classified. On this board in my sig the max I could get was 212x19 which netted me just above 4 GHz with 1.28V. Not bad considering it was a 1.6 Ghz increase over stock.

The stock speeds on some of those CPUs is impressive though.

what about these?
Xeon E5-1620 4 3.6 GHz - 10 MB cache 130 W LGA 2011 DMI 2.0 Dec 2011 $294
Xeon E5-1650 6 3.2 GHz - 12 MB cache 130 W LGA 2011 DMI 2.0 Dec 2011 $583
Xeon E5-1660 6 3.3 GHz - 15 MB cache 130 W LGA 2011 DMI 2.0 Dec 2011 $1080

i was hoping for sr-3 with 2x E5-1650

Just curious...those are the X79 Xeons, correct ? If so...then wow... the 8 Core is pricy. I need to start saving money now for next summer :O
