Let's see if you understand what I'm saying. It's 1AM.

GPU's run hot. Heat rises. Most GPU's are below the CPU. Heat from the GPU rises to the CPU, making the CPU heatsink less efficient.

Solution? Encase the GPU(s).

How? Why, with an insulated box!

I can't draw this up right now, too sleepy. Just want to jot down my ideas. Feel free to translate my jibberish into pics.


1. Make a box out of metal, large enough to surround the GPUs
2. Make all points where the box contacts the motherboard resistant to conduction. Likely with electrical tape or some rubber edges.
3. Line the "top" (where the enclosure contacts side panel) with rubber.
4. Line all other contact points with rubber.
5. Secure to case with mini L Brackets, or similar. Do not screw to side panel.
6. Ensure that once side panel is attached, there can be no or minimal air leaking into the rest of the case.
7. Line the inside of the enclosure with an insulant
8. Cut hole(s) into side panel over enclosure, for side air intake via fan(s). Likely two small fans at the bottom of the enclosure.
9. Make sure you only use GPU coolers the exhaust air through the PCI slots.

If this has been done,

you realise if you put a fan at the end of your gfx cards aiming the hot air at the pcie holes all the hot air gets out right...

The back of the PCB also gets hot. That's what I'm trying to put an end to. And this could work with any GPU cooler, I guess, if the hot air could be sent up a "chimney" of sorts, with a 80mm fan at the top of the case. Maximum Air Cooling, ha

well yes but if the airflow in your case is done properly then this idea would simply mess with the flow... the fans in your case should be able to dissipate the heat from the back of the cards like nothing.
