i just built a PC for a buddy

i3-2100
6850
4gb ram

he is running fine on High settings.

Upgrading your gpu would be the best choice. As you can see in this article the CPU does not effect frames in BF3 nearly as much as a GPU. I would suggest a GTX 470 or HD6870.

GTS450 works fine for all low, paired with a AMD quad I get 50-60fps in a 24 man on Grand Bazaar (res 1680 x 1050). I wouldn't upgrade to it though, 460 at minimum that way you can enable some eye candy and have it playable.

But at that point with a GPU upgrade, your CPU is gonna be the problem :/

Should run fine!
