You specificly say that the creation of cohesion between the parts, and that is correct. But compared to the work of literal design of a micro architecture, that is nothing. The design of branch prediction, super scalar pipelines and the fact that these ARM chips contain vector processing which is completely different than the style of processor in your computer far exceed the amount of work required to modify this predesigned architecture and physically design the caches and connect them. Point of fact, Apple did a ton of work on their phones... this however is not the place that most the work was conducted.
Where in my post did I state Apple did more work than ARM for the CPU ?

Post is irrelevant.

Good engineering would have both, the SGSII has that.
And I seriously don't get what you mean by literally popping out, every new phone has that as far as I'm concerned. (The shallow screen depth)
It's not poor engineering but a stupid design, a really stupid design. (Or idea.)

To be honest, I'm quite happy with the aesthetics. I obviously would be irked to say the least if I dropped it and it smashed, but I'm going to make sure I don't. I really love the design.

Yeah fair enough, it's very hard for me to explain. Maybe it's just because the 4S's display is brighter, has better viewing angles, and contrast, which makes it seem as if it's popping out of the screen more unlike the 3GS. Who knows, but it looks amazing and I'm happy

I've seen in a few reviews that the display "feels" closer to the glass and indeed on the 4S the screen is pretty much printed on the front of the glass it feels that close.

Still OT; I don't buy my phones based on which survive a drop test the best.

That's like buying a house based on how good they are at a surviving a fire, just stupid.

This.

Durability is at the top of my list of priorities. period.

I have kids, full hands, blah blah *drops phone* crap.... *kicks phone across parking lot*...... *infant eats phone*....

Yea, top of the list.

Definitely. My GSII survived all that (/\\) with nary a scratch on the screen. That's what I call engineering.

It manages that because of its light weight, gorilla glass and strong edges. It's not magic really, anyone can make a phone that looks good and is durable at the same time, they just choose form over function (and amusingly end up with a thicker phone that shatters rendering it useless).
