Let's see how the 4s fares against the GS III in Q1 2012
Nope, the iPad 2 was out March 11th with the A5, that was before the GS2 arrived with Exynos, so it's not a "new" processor.

Yes they are anti-competetive and monopolistic at times, but they litteraly started a revolution in smartphones with the first Iphone, all the other companies sorta just followed(or copied) Apples idea.

Same thing applies to the GUI OS, which, no offence, windows just copied. Ipad for example, how was that not innovative? It was "innovative" enough to start a completetly new market. Look at the ipad, now think android honeycomb tablets. Look at the iphone, now think galaxy nexus. Look at the Ipod, now think zune:-).

Get the message?

Claiming that Apple dosn't innovate is ridiculous.
Just because Apple dosnt release a new phone every month dosnt mean that they don't innovate.

If your idea of innovation is cpu clock speeds and memory size then have fun upgrading phones every month.
With every "4s" like upgrade on a yearly basis they are falling farther and farther behind. I just hope this is not the trend. Competition is good.

They made a (dare I say) revolutionary product in 07. But honestly, the same mundane, boring OS get's pretty stale after a while. There's only so long that they can milk the success of the original iphone. Eventually, they will have to start innovating again.

These aren't particularly important numbers though, as a lot of posters have said. They're limited in scope, for one thing. Apple and Samsung have very different business models, and only some of their phones (ex: iPhone 4S vs Galaxy S2) are in direct competition with each other if, indeed, any of their phones are in competition with each other. More to the point, units sold isn't even the whole story. I suspect that Apple's gross margin on its mobile sales far exceeds Samsung's gross margin, which tells a very different story about their respective businesses.
I agree with everything you posted. But if we turn the tables around in the sense of, Samsung having the marketing headstart of 4 years AND being the sole manufacturer of Android based smartphones, it might tell a different story...

I pretty much agree. I think a change is needed for both android and iOS as far as their UI's go. They're getting mundane.

You also have to consider, most people who get a high priced smart phone also get cases and film protectors for them. This test was pointless and very far outside the scope of general consumer usage.
but...people...drop their phones all the time.

Are you serious?

There's a lot of work turning a stock Android release into something usable by the general public. They have a very large team working on this for a reason.

They also have to work on multiple OS's.

Apple has it easier because they can do anything they want to the phone without any repercussion outside of unhappy customers. Samsung is restricted by what the current version of Android allows them to do, along with certain levels of approval from Google.

Samsung outselling HTC, LG, Motorola, and Apple is a huge accomplishment, regardless of how many phones they produce. When you're in a market where multiple manufacturers are available for multiple OS's, it's much harder to get people to buy YOUR phone over any other phone. Apple has iOS locked down, phone sales are in their favor.

So they do, but that does not change the fact that building a drop resistant phone was probably not high on the list of priorities.
