would be nice to have 3 GTX580's, but third PCIe slot is being used for Revo2 SSD

Please don't double-post, rather, if yours was the last post in the thread and it's not been a least one day, use the edit button on your previous post instead.

Another bit of advice: install afterburner and activate the onscreen display feature, and direct it to include all the data on all your cards. This allows you see things like GPU % usage, vram usage, temps, clocks, fan speeds, etc. It's a very handy troubleshooting tool, esp. when running multi-gpu, because it makes it easy to spot whether or not SLI is actually working.

Also note that SLI is pretty unreliable when a game is in windowed mode. In fact I've seen it sometimes happen where starting up a game in windowed mode will screw up the operation of SLI for the whole gaming session, even if you eventually get it to run full screen.

And I noticed you mentioned using alt-tab above ... are you aware that alt-enter toggles between windowed mode and full-screen on the large majority of games?

Lastly ... you're welcome

Unfortunately I'm not 'up' on whats 'the best' 3GB 580, perhaps others can help on that. Personally I'm a fan of MSI cards w/Twin Frozr coolers, but I dunno if they make such a 3GB 580.

The only ways to lower memory usage (appreciably) are: lower resolution, lower or no AA, and lowered texture size/resolution. I dunno the gfx options available in BF3, but if you have AA and/or texture quality, start by lowering those

The fact that memory capacity isn't additive shows that there's no vram sharing, basically.
I think you're confusing sharing with accumulating. Sharing is not additive. Anyway both of what you were saying is correct, just in different ways. To the OP, the easiest way of explaining it would be this scenario. If you have two 1gb cards in SLI, it does not not mean you have 2gb of memory. The memory does not add to combine double the memory. So two 1gb cards in sli will still be 1gb total memory. The same goes for crossfire as well. As for the best 3gb 580, IMO it's the MSI GTX 580 Lightning 3gb. It has the highest stock clock of any other 3gb 580 I have seen so far of 832 mhz compared to 772 mhz on others.

of all the research i did last night, and the information gained by you talented lot, i went and played in the BIOS, modified a few items, O and exited teamviewer cause this was also cuasing the game to play in windowed mode, and now using all 3 monitors 5136 x 1050 (with bezzel correction) and was getting 100 fps on ultra settings, so i think possibly teamveiwer was causing the bulk of the issue< in any event i learnt a lot.

also the game has an issue with multi monitor not showing friendly player tags, and ensuing team kills made me revert back to 1 monitor again anyways

but in any event Vram is eing reached, turned hperthreading off, and the 4 cores of my 2600k were running pretty much around 85 - 90 % utilization, ill play some more later with settup

got a new problem im hoping you guys can help with.

when playing BF3 my 2 GTX590's down clock themselves, would you have any suggestions as to why the cards would do this.

i have to manually go back to MSI afterburner and reselect the overclock settings set to 700/1400/1800

the cards down clock themselves to around 500Mhz and fps just goes down the toilet
