nVidia Drivers crashing with new rig

Thread Starter
I recently upgraded to a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 and an i5 2500k.

I run an MSI GTX 460 768MB Twin Frozr II GPU.

Along with the nVidia drivers, I installed the drivers for the onboard Intel Graphics that comes with the 2500k CPU. I did this because there is an app that, from my understanding, combines the power of a dedicated GPU with that of the onboard graphics to increase performance.

After doing this my nVidia driver started randomly crashing and restarting. I uninstalled the Intel graphics drivers but still had the problem. I ended up having to reformat and reinstall Win7 on my rig to fix the problem. I just disabled the onboard graphics in bios before reinstalling Windows.

Anyone else have this problem with trying to combine a dedicated GPU and the Sandy Bridge onboard Graphics for more performance?

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to bring attention back to this thread with this update:

I ended up having the nvidia display driver stop responding and restart again, even after reinstalling the OS.

I had both the CPU(4.5GHz) and GPU(values in system specs) overclocked so I'm thinking it was my power supply. I think the BFG 550w just wasn't enough to handle my rig overclocked as much as it is.

So I installed a new Antec EA-650 Green PSU and hopefully I don't have anymore issues with my display driver crashing.

Does it make since that my old BFG 550w PSU didn't supply enough power for my rig or should that have been enough power?

I'm still getting random graphics driver crashes.

I talked to tech support for MSI and the guy told me to go ahead and RMA my card since I've used it in my old rig and now my new rig, upgraded the PSU, and installed a different GPU in the same rig without any issues.

I've never dealt with MSI's RMA process. Will everything go smoothly and will I get my replacement back quickly?

MSI no longer makes my GPU...MSI GTX460 768MB Twin Frozr II SOC. What do you guys think they will send me for a replacement? I was thinking the MSI GTX460 1GB Hawk since it is the next cheapest upgrade from my 768MB version.

I don't think its your card. There are lots of reports "black screens" with the latest Nvidia drivers. What drivers did you install?

http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?s...ic=214221&st=0

Try installing the 275.33 Nvidia driver to see if it stops your issues.

madone is probably right.

You may have to stick with 275.33 drivers. I've been on the nvidia driver forum for the past month, but nvidia isn't helping people out yet. There have been SO many posts, but they keep ignoring them.

Some people on this forum are starting to talk about it now, too. Maybe that will help. But if you stick with 275.33, you will not have problems.

i dont think its ur power supply. im have ran at 4.6 GHz I5, and also over clocked my gigabyte GTX560TI to the highest it can with msi afterburner, and its runs really stable. my PSU is SeaSonic, with only 520 watts. i think its the driver too, i cant run Battlefield 3 on the newest driver(285.62) right now im still using 285.38, waiting for next driver update from nvidia, hope it fixes my crush during Battlefield 3.

I've used all of the following drivers and all had the same problem:

260.99
266.58
270.61
275.33
280.26
285.38

The 285.38 version crashes a lot less often than all the others, so that is what I am using right now.

Did exactly the same thing then re installed fresh Windows and still 285.62:
-Freezes PC in BF3 with SLI enabled.
-Freezes PC in BF2 with SLI disabled and 2nd card dedicated to physx.
-Freezes Windows specially while booting.
-Driver crashing and recovering.
-Blue screens.

Even if i clean sweep 285.62 and try let say 275.33 i will get the same problems. I'm not overclocking the cards just my 920 @ 4ghz.

any news about new beta drivers ?
