I'm getting the same error message. It says my local MC has 10+ in stock. I guess I'll stop by before going to work

Sometimes you must order online and pick up in store (not sure if this is one of them or not).
I guess if it is on your way to work it won't hurt to check though.

It's OEM packaging. Damn...I should have gotten the 840 when it was $50! My processor couldn't handle my latest upgraded, GTX 560 TI

Wow, that's a sweet deal. So basically this is a rebranded Phenom II X4 925 unless there's some other difference I don't know about. It's not letting me add it to cart but I'm sure people won't have a problem getting the deal by just going to the store. The Detroit Micro Center shows they have 10+ in stock. I would probably suggest calling though to confirm they actually have some. You can't beat the bang for buck of this chip at $50. It's insane the powerful system that can be made on the cheap these days. Plummeting RAM prices have really helped as well.

actually the 830 has 4MB of Level 3 yet still this is an amazing deal, a perfect Battlefield 3 CPU if u ask me

edit nevermind- seems like is actually is 6mb even though there are reports of 4MB Level 3

I see you discovered your mistake but I'll explain a little to remove some of the confusion, since some of AMD's CPU naming is extremely confusing. The reason I said this is like a rebranded Phenom II X4 925 is because it does indeed have the full 6MB L3 cache. I think the chip you're thinking of is the old Phenom II X4 820 that was released back in 2009 which had 4MB L3 cache. Here is how it breaks down:

Phenom II X4 805, 810, 820
Clock: 2.5GHz-2.8GHz
L3 Cache: 4MB (2MB disabled but has the possibility to unlock to 6MB)
Die: Deneb
Stepping: C2

Phenom II X4 830
Clock: 2.8GHz
L3 Cache: 6MB
Die: Deneb
Stepping: C3

Phenom II X4 840
Clock: 3.2GHz
L3 Cache: None (physically there is none so it can't be unlocked)
Die: Propus (AKA Athlon II X4)
Stepping: C3

So think of it like this:
Phenom II X4 840 = Athlon II X4 650
Phenom II X4 830 = Phenom II X4 925

So the 830 is better? Are these processors more powerful than the new quad Llano APUs?
