No. Yes but in the dark I move slowly so that I don't get an injury. No

Our movements carry a surprising amount of force and without some form of feedback (usually visual) it is very easy to cause an injury by simply moving a limb into a solid object. Couple our relatively slow reaction time with the force and momentum of our movements and I can see how you could impale your hand on something you didn't know was there. Especially true if he was slamming the drive shut.
I know what you are saying there but to completely impale your hand on a bit of metal like that guy did, you would have to slam it as hard as you can if you don't slam it as hard as you can then you will probably have a small cut instead of a chunk of metal going straight through your hand.

Not sure. Explain?

Seems like he tried to slam the drive shut, the tray tilted, got stuck, and went into his hand.

Well it happened to me.

It was EXACTLY like this afterward:

Took me ages to take out the fragments afterward, but the drive was busted.

Also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_Disc_shattering

The drive i had was also a 52x CD-ROM Drive

Also the disk itself was a few years old at the time.

Umm guys, a CD didn't explode. A piece of metal impaled his hand. Not a piece of plastic.

I'm going to unplug mine and store it in a safe that can't be destroyed from the inside when not in use. If I'm using one, I'm pleading god and the devil to have it not kill me...or I could just wear a bubblewrap jump suit and a helmet.

Does he have kids? Kids put all kinds of stuff into things. Maybe he slammed the drive shut and whatever it was went into his hand.
