Scythe Mugen 3 : Base is concave

Just thought I would share my experience with the community:

I just received my Scythe Mugen 3 for my 2500k. I installed it with Arctic Silver 5. My load temps at 4.2ghz were a disappointing 72c with an ambient temperature of 69f.

I took the Mugen off to reseat it and I noticed that the compound in the center of the CPU was not touched, only the outside edges of two sides had disturbed compound. I took a straight-edge and determined that the base of the Mugen was concave.

I taped some sandpaper on a flat surface, from 250 grit, down to extremely fine wet sandpaper (the Testors kind for model airplanes). I eventually got it flattened out and decently polished.

Temperatures are now 53-56c.

So, if your temps are disappointingly poor, check your heatsink base!
