post #1 of 12

Hello people,

here's my problem; I bought a used Q8400 CPU for my girlfriend to replace the old P4 3.0ghz, tested it for a week on my computer, any problems occorred, then i instaled in her computer, and now, from time to time the PC wont recognizes two of the three HD's, they are Seagate 7200.11 500gb (new firmware), seagate 160gb,
the 3º HD (samsung 80gb) is allways recognized.

changed the sata cables to make sure and wont solve nothing;

could be the power suply?

appreciate all the help.

If the motherboard is compatible with a Pentium 4, then it's mostly likely (or most definitely) not compatible with a 45nm Core2 Quad.

So, it's just a compatibility issue. I mean, it doesn't just come down to the socket: the motherboard has to be compatible with the CPU itself too. :/ So the only solution is to upgrade to a motherboard that is compatible with it.

So now that I understand it as it really is instead of what I thought, I think you might be on to something about the PSU. It's probably being maxed out.

Is the PSU warm or hot at all?
