Many PCs have 64-bit OSs with 8/16GB RAM and 1-2GB of VRAM, yet game devs like Bethesda seem to think it's acceptable to give PCs the same textures as the ones on consoles that have 512mb RAM total between the system and VRAM. mad.gif

When you care about consoles this is what happens

I say good, assuming it looks ok. With games being 15-30GB it's getting kind of crazy. The last time I was PC gaming the games were like 100MB.

These are words I never thought I would hear about a bethesda game. If this game is all it's cracked up to be, i'll be buying on release.
Considering their track record so far in quality of games + modding community I would buy it now and not think twice.

Though they lost some points when they didn't go to war with minecraft over scrolls. Id have loved to see a quake war over the matter

Indeed. However I never was about graphics but more so about gameplay/replay value of a game. So it keeps my ancient rig in stock for longer. The downside is all the crappy direct from console ports ~_~

:rage:
25GB would require 3-4 DVDs, which many PCs and the 360 use. Making an open world game usually necessitates that all of the data be in a central location. For PCs this would be ok if they required a full install of all data, but for the 360 that's not possible because not all customers have a hard drive, or a big enough one to fit that data. They had to go with a format that would work on all platforms, requiring a HDD install would've meant many 360 customers couldn't enjoy it, and lets be honest, the console platform will probably sell more copies than the PC, so it would've been a bad business decision to exclude a large chunk of your potential buyers.

It's not an either or thing, they could keep the game the way it is for consoles, and simply provide higher quality textures/audio for the PCs.

Woah, This is news to me. Although it's DX9 so I didn't think it would be that big. I've seen a DX9 game that big. Maybe I haven't played alot

Wonder if anyone remembers that Bethesda was a huge portion of why games like this ever got popular on PCs in the first place.

I think they're allowed to do what they like at this point. TES has been around for a very, very long time.

(Also, it's always been released with a lot of bugs - even Arena & Daggerfall had horrible horrible issues that had to be fixed with mods/patches. Don't blame consoles, it's just the way of TES.)

Edit: I didn't mean RPGs in general, but a full, large game with 3d graphics and quests that don't necessarily follow a linear quest line.

This is probably influenced by MS. I know they were pissed a while back about not having the same content. So this could be MS money.
