850w PSU Recommendations

Thread Starter
I'v been running my toughpower 850w since 2007 and I am starting to believe some of my recent issue with gpu artifacts at idle voltage changes might be psu related as it's getting a little long in the tooth. So I'm looking to replace it with an 850w psu, I'd prefer a modular unit which is also relatively quiet.

I have been looking at the corsair hx 850w but i know it's quite an old model now (2009?) so not sure if there's anything better avilable these days which will serve me better for a similar price. Any suggestions?

The only other thing to go for is the AX850, its gold rated, fully modular and the pci-es are in a single sleave rather than bonded cables, Also all the cables used are black so it looks neater.

An other benifet from it been fully modular is that you can mod cables. ie lengths and sleaving and it will not void your warrenty.

AX850 is good. Also Seasonic X 850 is also good. Both of the PSUs are by Seasonic I think.

I'd get a Cougar SX850w. Those are nice

Thanks for the suggestions all, I am looking at the ax850w now but it costs a bit more than the hx850w and for about the same price I could get the hx1050w, would that serve me better in the long run?

I doubt you'll ever need 1000W+, and the HX850 should serve you as well as the AX.
The differences between the HX850 and the AX850 are small
1) The AX850 is slightly more efficient
2) The AX850 is fully modular with black sleeved cables
3) The HX850 If Partly Modular with flat bonded cables, (the 24 pin and 4+4 pin are sleeved as well as 2 of the 6+2 PCI-e connectors)
3) The HX850 has 2 more 6+2 PCI-e and 4 more Molex connectors than the AX850
4) The AX850 Is a newer product line and runs quieter then the HX850

Both are great and both supply the same power outputs so either one is fine
