Galaxy Video cards... any good? Thinking of this 580

It's time to replace my trusty GTX 260 in my sig rig. Been a long time coming. I'm trying to decide between a 570 and a 580. I have the funds for the 580 right now and at roughly $100 more than the 570 (after rebate), it seems worth it to me.

So I'm looking at this galaxy card... looks like it stays cooler than most and the reviews all seem to be positive except for one.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814162073

The one really bad review talked about not being able to get ahold of their support. I called the number on their site and did have to hold for 5 minutes but someone did answer.

If I have to go all the way up closer to $500 (After rebate), which I'd have to do to get into an EVGA/ASUS/MSI/GIGABYTE card, I think I'd rather just go with a 570.

Thanks in advance for any input!

That Galaxy card uses an Arctic Cooling based vga cooler which is near silent and cools like a beast...I say go for it!

Thanks for the reply. It does seem like a good deal. I found another review on newegg by the same guy who gave it a really low rating due to not being able to get ahold of their support..... and he actually was able to get ahold of them (as I was today) so as long as they honor their warranty, seems like a good deal to me. The cooler is worth what, $70 or so by itself...

I've had a Galaxy GTX465 for a little over a year now, no issues with it. And their rebates come fast.

Same cooler, same warranty, lower price with no rebate to fiddle with. Sparkle and Galaxy are about the same tier as far as companies go.

Jeffredo, thanks for the link to the Sparkle card. I like that I wouldn't have to wait for a rebate but I can't deal with the purple fans even without a window in my case lol. That was a good find though!

I was really between the 570, 6970 and the 580. The GTX 260 I have had in my sig rig for ages was the most I'd ever spent on a video card (I think it was like $225 when I bought it years ago). But with Arkham City and Skyrim out in a few days, I had to upgrade now. I know I could get a much lesser card and still probably max both games but I don't upgrade very quickly so I want what I get to last a while.

I compared 570, 6970 and 580 card prices and for $420 after rebate, and with the Arctic cooler, the 580 seemed the only way to go. The 570 cards are all going for low-mid $300's right now, most don't have any rebates available so for $90 to $100 more than a 570, I got the 580 with a great cooler and Arkham City.

I'm all setup for winter gaming! Thanks to all who replied.

Just a contrarian's thought:- another GTX260 for SLI.

An used GTX260 could be bought cheaply. If a new one is preferred, here is one:-

Thanks for the idea windfire. I did SLI with two cards I had before the GTX 260 and decided it just wasn't for me. I like the simplicity, power savings and temps of a single card setup.

I'll post next week with overclocking results (hopefully I'll be able to OC it)

Some cards just won't overclock worth a darn...used to own a HD 6950 TFIII and could never get it above 900mhz

Back on topic, I've heard a lot of good things about that card...I'd get it
