[ZDNet]Smartphone wars: Samsung top dog...for now

Quote:
Samsung should celebrate being the king of smartphones today, but the fourth quarter competition is going to be far more challenging.

Samsung led the smartphone pack in the third quarter, but it’s uncertain how long the Korean electronics giant can stay top dog.

What do you guys think? Think they can still be on top in Q4?

With the massive iPhone 4s sales, I dunno. Gonna be tough to hang on, but it's possible.

I feel they will stay on top, while the iphone 4s sold 4M units pretty quickly its not going to beat out that 10M lead that Samsung has especially with the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Nexus launching in the same quarter.

Keep in mind Samsung isn't releasing actual numbers, so this is an estimate. Additionally, Samsung's numbers are "units shipped" unlike Apple's numbers which are "units sold".

Pretty sure they are going to stay on top, Galaxy Nexus is gonna sell like mad which will just widen the gap between the two.. The days of Apple being on top are at an end, Androids rejoice!

I think HTC has something big coming... I've noticed when they have something big they usually go silent for a while in regards to the next phones they plan to release.

Of course this thread is going to end up comparing samsung and apple though... sales wise apple will still be on top(this is just samsungs latest phones and the iP4S we are talking about here), I see the tides changing customer satisfaction wise though.

Well I agree with the "For now" part. Since a lot of people are looking into the iPhone 4/4S more and people been looking around at the Galaxy Nexus.

Are we this is just smartphones or phones in general?
Have a feeling that 27m includes dumb phones too

Personally I don't care either way. I like my iPhone whether 10 bazillion people own it or I'm the only one on earth.

Feelings are great, but reading comprehension is even better. The chart says specifically smartphone sales, and at the bottom there is an overall sales chart where nokia is still first... Now these references don't make any sense if you don't read the source, so ya know, try that out.
