Thread Starter
Bless you kind sirs, so I guess I'm going go for 2 6970s. I wanted to get 27" but would it be worth it if the resolution 1920 x 1200 and possibly not 120hz or should I aim higher?

Look brody, if you're going for such a solution, get a 1600p or 1440p screen at 27"

get an IPS panel and be happy

Thats when the 2gb and trifire really shine.

look up the:
Dell u2711h
dell 3007 wfp hc
dell u3011h
HP zr30w
HP zr2740w
Apple Cinema display
you should look for high qualit SIPS ultra high resolution monitors at 2560 x 1600 for trifire goodness.

Thought i would clarify a few things said in this thread:

Through testing, you can run the cards at different clocks and receive better performance. I have a thread on this in this forum section. Running them at different clocks does not necessarily run them at the slowest clock rate.

The 6990 is nowhere near as loud as people make it out to be. It is actually unheard in my system above my antec 920 and other 6970, until it hits around 76+ degrees. It was a surprise to me too lol. Of course this is subjective tho.

You will get some bottlenecking, but it will be largely irrelevant, unless maybe you run 3x1200 or 3x1600 screens.

There is a switch to change the bios on the 6990, this will run them at 6970 speeds. You do not have to manually overclock to match them or raise the clock settings if you dont wish to

As per the SLI memory comment, they work the same way. If you ran a 1gb vram card, the 6990 would also run with 1gb memory. With a 2GB card you would be fine however as mentioned.

For BF3, more than 8GB is ideal. I have 8GB and the game wont even start without a page file. I need at least 8GB page file also, the game will crash at some point with anything less. Using page file decreases performance, so i will be upgrading to 16GB myself also

1 screen = not worth it

I did this with a 5970 + 5850, then a 5970 + 5870. it turned out I saw no improvement in games, and decided it just wasn't worth it to dump all that heat into my system. I recommend running 6970 in crossfire, but do not bother with 6990 + 6970 IMO.
