Laptop suggestions

Thread Starter
Yo OCN!

My dad wants to get a new laptop and I'm kind of lost. He needs it for application development that he does on the side. I'd prefer to get him one of the next gen i5 or i7 laptops. I've searched, but have a hard time finding a SB i7 without a dedicated GPU. The HDD will also be swapped for a SSD. Thanks in advance, +rep to all helpful responses.

What is your maximum budget?
~$800, can convince to go higher

What country are you in?
Good ol USA (Chicago, live close to Frys and Microcenter)

What will be the uses of this laptop?
Application development, web browsing, Microsoft Office use, no gaming.

Do you have brand loyalty or care which brands we select for you?
Sony or Asus preferred, can be swayed...

What screen size do you require?
14-16"

What screen resolution do you require?
No preference

Are you looking to buy NEW or would refurbished/recertified/used be okay?
New

How long should the battery last? (Under optimal conditions, no movies/games/heavy internet)
Doesn't matter, 95% of the time laptop will be plugged in.

What games would you like to play with your laptop? And on what settings?
None

What operating system do you need? (if any)
Windows 7

Is there a certain style of laptop you want? (aluminum, black, gaming, etc.)
Please make sure it's not too ugly.

How much hard drive space do you need?
Doesn't matter, will swap HDD with SSD

Do you need any special hardware? (blu ray, webcam, specialty ports, etc.)
Ability to swap out HDD for SSD, USB 3.0

Is there anything else we need to know?
Not really. Thanks everyone!

well, if the graphics card doesn't matter... something like the MSI FX603-018US might be a decent fit. $699 on newegg.

very sleek... good screen... number pad to the side... I am in the market looking for a notebook to... and I think this is one of the better deal/sleek/quality builds. I would have bought one if you could upgrade and customize.. but I don't see a place for that at the samsung website.
