955 @ 4.1 + 560Ti = cpu bottleneck and low gpu spikes? (BF3) - Page 4

Well it's defiantly not the processor I get 60+ FPS with mine at 4.3 and 880 core 560ti at 1400x900 on ultra. I do think there's a memory leak though, cause last night I used all of 8GB and it ended up killing windows. My friend also has a 2600k and a 560ti but gets stuttering. There's some odd performance issues in this game atm. Try running a repair on your game from Origin, it helped my friend's stuttering problem a lot.

BF3 could care less whether you had a Core i3, Phenom II X4, or 2600K.

So the problem is DEFINITELY not your CPU bottlenecking anything, especially with a midrange card like a 560 Ti.

The best stability test is always to simply play the games that you enjoy for a few hours. If artifacts occur or the game crashes, then the overclock is unstable (although this is unlikely for a factory overclocked card). You can run furmark for hours on end (and make your card run unnecessarily hot), but it may crash as soon as you get into a game.

I don't think it's the CPU, I think it's the game.

I run my 965 C3 @ 3.71GHz (& 2.4GHzNB freq.), and I get these TERRIBLE gpu spikes & the sad part is I can't confirm if my system is fully stable. Keep in mind this doesn't happen too often, but who wants it to happen at all? I want to upgrade to a sandy bridge, but I'm currently going SLI soon... so I might actually get bottlenecked @ my sig rig res. I truly believe BF3 is your issue, and the post above made me that much more positive.

well if this helps i too get gpu spikes. Has to be drivers, game. I don't get them all the time but it does get a little agitating, I don't see this happening in any other game i play.

Well, when using multiple cores, you are comparing like core counts at the same clock speed, correct?

I'm actually interested in seeing these results. If it's a fair bit behind Wolfdale, and even a bit behind Conroe, at stock, I can't see a Northbridge overclock shooting it up to near Nehalem clock for clock levels, but again, I know very little (as in, next to nothing) about it.

Sorry to digress, but have threads/comparisons been done? I'd always like to know the whole story if I don't already have it to know better about something. However, your conclusion kind of talks about "feel", which is something else.

Some of those are pretty impressive, but I don't really see that as practical evidence in this case. It's not comparing it to anything but itself.

As I said, too, either way, when I said your Core 2 wasn't much or any slower clock for clock, I was comparing it to the CPU as it is. Even with those gains, I would guess that you're likely looking at something roughly similar to Wolfdale performance, plus or minus depending on the application.

I'd rather take occasional stuttering over the game freezing then returning me to the desktop, forcing me to end the game with task manger.

I'm leaning more towards driver issue rather than game issue. There doesn't seem to be many ATI users reporting random spikes like that....most of our issues are people with 5xxx gen cards having trouble with crossfire. Most people with 6xxx gen cards seem to be having smooth sailing so far.

In real world performance, it beats Wolfdale handily with an OCed CPU/NB, but matches around the same clock speed, I can't pull definite numbers (I no longer have any Wolfdales) but this is based off extensive testing with my own rigs.
Unless the application either A) Uses a lot of memory bandwidth or B) Uses more than 2 cores effectively, Phenom IIs IMC and Inter-core communication is better than Wolfdales solutions, for obvious reasons.
