Monitor amplifying GPU noise

Whenever I play games, I get this weird whirring sound that comes from my monitor. (main audio output device) I have a 3.5mm connector (hope that's what it's called, don't know much about audio) going from the output on my Mobo to the input on the monitor. I've only ever got the sound during games, it is very prounouced at menus and does it while I'm playing as well, just not as noticeable because of the game sounds. I believe it is the somehow amplifying the GPU (not the fan, processor itself) because that's what it sounds like. I have tried unplugging both audio jacks, haven't tried any headphones or other audio devices yet will probably do that soon, but do you guys know why it is doing this?

Are you sure that its not coming from the card its self, normally anything like menus or anything very stressfull makes my card whine. - which is sort of seen as normal now. If the game has VSYNC turn it on it solves whine in most cases.

Yeah it's the sound the GPU makes, but my monitor is amplifying it. As in, if I turn the monitor off I can just faintly hear the sound, and when I turn it back on it's the loudest thing in my computer if I'm at a menu.
