GTX 470 SLI questions

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I just bought my second gtx 470 for a really good deal in the market place. I have a question about SLI though, because it is an EVGA and my first card is a PNY. I know the EVGA (from the previous owners) can be clocked higher, however, my PNY has the AXII heatsink on it. Should I throw my PNY with the AXII from PCI 16x slot to the 2nd one and have the vanilla reference EVGA 470 in the first slot? I have never SLI'd before so all and any advice is welcome!
I also bought it because I am a beginning folder and decided that having another card to fold on would be cool, especially being a gamer I've never SLI'd so I figured might as well for the price and save a little bit of cash before 6xx drops sometime next year.

it shouldn't make a huge difference, with sli the performance will be decided by the weaker link. you should try to the clocks, etc, as similar as possible (in my experience, anyway).

Best to just test them out to find the best match up. Click synchronize settings for similar graphics processors in afterburner.

@ 855 core mine net about 17k PPD each, but they're not the most power efficient cards.

So is there no slot prioritization, because they will both be 8x when in SLI anyway and technically matched settings? Are they both gonna have to be the same Voltage or can that differ?
Also is testing process the same as when OCing single cards or is there a different process for SLI?

1) For your motherboard ASUS P8P67 EVO, the blue and white slots will both run at x8 when they are occupied.

2) Both cards can differ in voltage.

Regarding which card goes to top slot and which goes to bottom slot, heat management is one important consideration. I believe the regular EVGA GTX470 is a 2-slot card. Is the PNY GTX470 with Accelero Xtreme a 3-slot card?

I suggest you to actually try the 2 possibilities (pic 1 vs pic 2) to see which setup yields better thermal numbers. This is also much related to how you design the overall airflow inside the case.
