Running Wine64 issue

I've managed to succesfully compile a build of Wine 64 using these commands
Code:
./configure --enable-win64
make depend
make
sudo make install

So it installs succesfully and then I attempt to launch winecfg, but then i get this:
Code:
/usr/local/bin/winecfg: line 52: exec: wine: not found

I did a search and found wine executables in these directories:
Code:
/usr/local/share/wine
/usr/local/lib64/wine
/usr/local/include/wine

I think I may have missed a compile flag or I'm running the wrong thing to launch wine. Anyone have any clue?

EDIT: There is a wine64 executable in the bin folder, so it may be just winecfg looking for the 32 bit.

/usr/local/share/wine
/usr/local/lib64/wine
/usr/local/include/wine

^ those are folders afaik, and it appears you are missing a few...the wine binary is located in /usr/bin.


edit: and why did you install to /usr/local? or does your distro user /usr/local over just usr?

installing a source tarball on a binary distro will usually not work quite right unless you hack through it. I would suggest installing the wine package as provided by your distribution, that will take care of all the path names etc properly. That makefile you just ran is probably specific to the author's distro and not yours, hence the different paths. At the very least you may have to edit the makefile etc. Your distro probably has the source patches in their repository if you can find them.

any reason you're not installing the provided wine package? newer unstable version maybe?

Althoiugh I was unaware that Wine can be built in a 64bit system without multilibs (for 32 bit compatibility) what I have to say should still apply since it is a diagnostic. If you are running KDE you are in luck especially when it comes to installing from source but also from packages.

KDE has a little program that used to be called simply KPackage but is now KpackageKit. I got tired of messing with "Kit" when it first came out and just installed the older "KPackage" but it is my understanding that what always existed in KPackage is now back in the "Kit". What I am referring to is a Tab that displays all installed files associated with any program with full path. It will show problems with a "?" and also duplications but will also allow you to see any paths abnormal to your distro.

I suppose it is just old skool convention but I, too, am fond of "/usr/local". It can be useful keeping the applications that came with a distro separate from those users install and frankly I don't like them in $HOME. I am betting you can work this out once you see what is needed. smile.gif

I see you are running arch according to your sig, I highly reccomend using the PKGBUILD in AUR for the wine64+32 installation. It leads to the least amount of headache. Also, unless you SPECIFICALLY REQUIRE 64-bit wine I would stick to 32-bit (especially for gaming) no game runtime utilizes more than 2gb of ram in-game, and as the DirectX/OpenGL processing is done on a different thread, it can utilize all of the GPU memory. The 64-bit wine environment is sometimes extremely tempermental.

The best solution that is also easy, is to add /usr/local/bin and perhaps /usr/local/include/wine to your PATH. Eventually try symlinking /usr/local/bin/wine to /usr/local/bin/wine64 (do `ln -s /usr/local/bin/wine64 /usr/local/bin/wine`) so that it doesn't complain about that executable.

Otherwise I can recommend using the existing PKGBUILD from the AUR, that is ultimately the best solution, but would require you to recompile WINE.

It's also 3GB for Linux, and on x86_64 kernels it's potentially 4GB if the game supports it.
