Extreme air cooling!

Ok, so sometime in the future, I intend to set up the most extreme air cooling rig ever. Ok, well maybe not ever, but the best I can do anyways

Why air? because A. I'm poor, and B. it can get colder than water... sort of. and C. no one else does it, so...

Goals:
1. To set a record for the smallest ΔT on air cooling.
2. Highest OC (with my processor) on air
3. Grab some HWBot points/good benching results

Basic idea so far is going to be combine the best hardware I can get with -17C air inside an industrial freezer. If I can get access to a different freezer, (an ice cream freezer) Then I can get ~-25C air

Condensation shouldn't be a problem - http://www.overclock.net/faqs/41915-...ion-occur.html

The Hardware:

Heatsink - I am not 100% sure about this, but I'm leaning towards a Spire Gemini Rev. 2 or a Spire Thermax II Eclipse. I believe they both outperform a Megahalems.

Fan - one of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835706015 Yes, you read correctly, thats 252CFM and 35.8mm H2O, and a 48W power draw.

Thermal paste - I have some Arctic Silver Ceramique... Feel free to suggest something better.

What I need from you:

Suggestions on how to go even farther! Specifically regarding the heatsink and thermal paste. But suggestions/comments in general are always welcome.

I haven't ordered anything yet, and I probably won't set everything up for more than a month, as I have research to do, and other things. Pics will come when I start getting stuff/setting it up.

i wouldnt use a freezer as it will make condensation on your hardware and quickly kill it. L2N is easy to fix this issue by insulating the board around the cold area's but in a freezer the cold area is everywhere and you cant insulate every part of the computer. the idea is good there is just a few issues with it. best youll be able to do is air conditioning for cooling, problem with a freezer is it has a high moisture level meaning faster condensation. if you got a air conditioner you could direct all the air from it through the heatsink using Ducting pipe.

also please note, its against OCN rules to ask for any form of rep. so i would remove that.

"Heatsink - I am not 100% sure about this, but I'm leaning towards a Spire Gemini Rev. 2 or a Spire Thermax II Eclipse. I believe they both outperform a Megahalems.
"

- In the context of how you will be doing your air cooling thats probably not going to be relevant.

Those fans are going to be very noisy but effective I think, given their static pressure.

Given that the whole PC will be operating at -25c if you are sticking it an industrial chiller there may be other issues for the system. Its not the same as Extreme cooling with LN2 as thats directed to certain parts.

Sounds like fun though. Here is a TIM compound review. I personally think AS compunds are overporced for the performance. I use Noctua.

Condensation only occurrs when something is cooled below the dew point, like when you have a mobo cooled below the ambient temps in a room by LN2. If the ambient is colder than my mobo (which it will be) I'm fine. OFC I'll have to deal with condensation when I take the gear out of the freezer, as they will be much colder than ambient then. But that's easy enough to prevent.

And thanks, its removed. I thought it might be, now i know

Yes the fan is unbelievably loud, but that's unimportant for what I'm doing. Yes I'm aware there may be cold related issues, although HDDs won't be one of them, as I'll be using solely SSDs. Thanks for the TIM roundup link

i got some some kind of cheap-ish shin-etsu stuff last week..best TIM i've ever used..VERY thick..but ...quite effective! i'm out now

Couple of problems here... Your results from a 100CFM fan to a 250 CFM fan won't change at all... The problem you are going to run into is that there will be a point where the heat being transferred from the block to the fins will be the limiting factor in ur temps... If you are going for extreme cooling, then make ur own heat sink with high fpi and like 12 heat pipes... The best cooler to use won't be the best one at regular fan speeds... Look for a cooler with a ton of heat pipes and high fpi (idk with one would be best as I usually water cool)... With even coolers such as the nh-d14 or silver arrow, you wold max heat transfer at around 150CFM or so... If u want extremely low temps, the get a cheap pump, a block and a 120.1 black ice rad and you will probably hit close to ambient temps with one of those fans... Whole setup should run u like $150 or so

Take the whole setup and turn it upside down and dip the cpu cooler in a vat of LN2 that will be some EXTREME cooling........"air" might become a gray area...lol. WAIT, if you use the air cooler and use the fan to move lets say.....super cold CO2 from dry ice, that would get pretty cold.

forget that sipre crap!!!!
get yourself an TR-silver arrow and put three of that PFBs on it

and I'll suggest you to take the 4 wire (PWM) version instead of the three wire,
or just search the Delta PFC1212DE, it has the same blade design of that PFB
but with more power (4.8A each )
