Help: Recommend a case????

I have an Antec 300.

The current mobo is P5Q w/ Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme heat sink.

It's very difficult for me to work with this case (setup). With the mobo design, I needed extensions for my ATX power cables and I still have a chore getting the 8pin cable around the exhaust fan... i.e. clearing space so it's not right in front of the fan.

I hope someone who's owned the mobo and case know what I mean...

Another complaint is the heat sink is sharp and there's hardly any room for me to push/pull cables if I need to take something apart or put it back. Very little room...

So, I would like to look at new cases to replace this one. Either I'll sell the old components and see if the case sells or if I'm lucky, I'll sell it as a complete system. I guess the case is cheap as it goes for $50 to $60?

I'm picky, sorry. But, this is what I'd like in a case.... Do any such cases exist?!?

1) cable management - the 300 isn't bad or maybe it is. I can't really tell because it could just be the design of the P5Q mobo but I definitely don't have a clean setup and I guess I am more picky about that now.

2) I want room for my hands to plug cables in etc. There's very little room w/ this case. Also, the heat sink is sharp (edges) and I'd rather not have to pray I'm not cut each time I need to unplug connectors or plug them back.

3) I would like a back plate or the feature for assembling the heat sink (or disassembly) without having to take the mobo out.

With that in mind, I think I am flexible somewhat on price and whether it's mid tower or full tower. But, with my requests, I probably want a full tower?

I do prefer the price to be under $200. The reason for that is I'm saving up for 1155 hardware. So, maybe that comes to about $400 or so....

I'm hoping my complete 775 system gets me $250 to $300 (preferably $300!) so that helps.

Any ideas or recommendations? I thought maybe the CM 932 Advanced but I don't know if that fulfills my requests/preferences?

Corsair, Lian Li, Thermaltake and maybe others are contenders? I dunno... I know nothing about the current market of cases. I just hope there's something out there that would deliver what I'd like.

Lastly, can I get a heat sink that isn't so sharp and that I can have room to move around it in the case? I guess I don't care about having a high tower heat sink. I guess I prefer not to if there's anything out there that does decent cooling and I won't try to break records with overclocking.

Please recommend one, too. I am not sure I'll use the Ultra 120 Extreme in the next system... I would if I have a budget problem but not a fan of this cooler.... I know the performance is good but hasn't there been design improvements lately with heat sinks?

The CM 932 is deff. a good case to check out. It is very spacious and has slots to allow cables to be routed to behind the mobo tray and out of sight. There is also a cutout on the mobo tray, but keep in mind, a lot of cases have these but swapping out cpu coolers still sometimes requires the motherboard to be taken out. A lot of times the cutout is not able to reach the CPU cooler backplate.

You also stated you didn't want a sharp cooler. Have you checked out the Corsair 60 or 70 or Antec Kuhler series of all in one water cooling? No sharp edges there

I know what you are talking about. My Antec 900 had the same issues. Cases I think would suit your needs are;

Haf 932/Haf x/690II advanced

Corsair 500, 650,700,800

Silverstone Raven RV02, Fortress FT02

Lian LI K62B

All great cases.

The HAF 932, Lian Li PC-K62 and RV02B-EW looks interesting.

I was wondering which one you'd pick out of those.

The Silverstone looks like it might have the most room?

Do any of those cases have a good section for the mobo back plate for the heat sink install/uninstall? Just curious.

I think I'd like a full tower even though it means it is probably heavier and more awkward to move around but it'll be staying put most of the time.

The other prob with the full tower is price but I'm curious about the case for features first. Worry about price later. However, I think $200 may be the limit I'd go but I'd like cheaper than that if possible.

I like my HAF X and that is very similar to the HAF932. Its a bit industrial looking but cable management and airflow are good.

The RV02 is also a great case. It has a 90 degree mobo and also great airflow. I thnk I would go with the Silverstone between those three choices.

How come you chose the HAF X over it, then? The RV02 wasn't available then?

I think I need to find an online vendor though and then what further complicates things, is I probably want one that has free shipping for components over $50 or $100. Newegg has the RV02 but charges around $20 - $50 for shipping for cases!

The RV02 is $200 so is it that much better than the CM cases?

The HAF X is similar to the 932 so when I mention either, it is almost interchangeable unless there's a reason to choose one over the other besides price.

I chose it mainly because of the look/Styling and it was a little cheaper. They were similar price and features overall although I thought the Haf was slightly better internally for cable mgmt.

The Raven I think would have better airflow becasue of the orientation of the mobo and fans.

Really it kind of came down to a coin toss. you cant go wrong with either.

I think these are the contenders:
CM 932 Advanced
HAF X
Rosewill Thor V2
NZXT Phantom
Silverstone RV02

Thoughts?

Any way to compare these?

I'd probably rate cable management higher than most other features... if it means easier to work in the case... to route cables, unplug/plug cables... to get around the cooler etc.

These cases have the mobo 'cutout' too so does that mean that one can take the heat sink out/off without removing the mobo? Or does it depend on certain factors?

Another vote for the 932. Glorious case. You'd be amazed at the amount of crap that you can put into it. I have a 360mm rad, (soon to be) 7 120mm fans, 1 140mm fan, 2 200mm fans, 2 UV CCFLs, 2 GPUs, a water pump and 150mL res, 6 HDDs, 2 BD drives, a SATA hotswap bay, a fan controller, a front panel card reader, and a drawer. I swear to god I've added like 2x the weight of the bare case in this thing.
