CM Storm Spawn Not All Its Cracked Up to Be - Page 2

My spawn with firmware 32 works perfect on my razer scarab which isn't a dark surface, No tracking issues, But it does seem like any lighter than the scarab it wont track because on my white pearl formica desk it doesn't track at all with firmware 32.

Like kaingosu said try the tape fix because i did that on my razer deaftvadder because the lod was way too high for me and its perfect now:)

I'm using the Mionix Sargas 460 mousepad with my Spawn on FW Ver. 32, and it works great. The Sargas is 4 mm thick, almost solid black (just some small text and their logo off in the corners, where you won't mouse over with the sensor anyway), and the cloth surface is a lot like the QCK series mousepads. It tracks perfectly, with no jitter, and the LOD is less than 2 CD's. I can wholeheartedly recommend this mousepad for the Spawn.

Because its a excellent mouse pad? It's the perfect thickness 4mm compared to the Qck+/Heavy alternative (2/6mm?), and the cloth is smoother.
The new TTesports saphire seems to have the same sensor.

I don't understand the point of the CMstorm spawn, if an optical sensor can't track it's just useless, the 3090 is hardly the top notch sensor nowdays. The avago 9500 is still the king (or the 3080 for the low dpiers).

I would at least try another mousepad, the black/standard QCK is pretty nice, or some Puretrak Talent or Artisan maybe.

You're absolutely right, the sensor on the Spawn is garbage, which you would have seen if you had researched it a bit on this forum. Myself and several other people have posted extensively on how the sensor is very finnicky about the surface you use it on. Even when you find one that gives you acceptable tracking and LOD, you'll still have to deal with the uber-low maximum control speed. I hit negative acceleration at 1800 DPI/500Hz (which is the most stable settings) on a black QcK on my desktop.

That said, if you like the shape, your only hope lies with the upcoming CM Xornet. It's the same shape with a different sensor. It's currently available through CM's website but nobody has done a proper review on it yet to say whether it's any better than the Spawn.

Regardless of whats been shown, I actually think the 3090 will justify it's premium price tag once more work and development has been put into it. While the CM spawn might not satisfy low sensers in it's current state, I believe it's capable of much more.

if you are not using a pure black surface, I would recommend using the "tape fix" with f/w 30/a

We are constantly spending time tweaking both the 3090 (as we have a fingertip grip mouse otw with it) and the 3050. WE WILL GET IT RIGHT

Carter, I've put up my spawn on sale. I hope there's an firmware update to the mouse to make it much more usable than on 1800 @ 125. I contemplated on getting the xornet because the spawn doesn't meet my requiements in low dpi gaming. But with the problems with the spawn I couldn't put my faith there and got a SS sensei instead.

I hope in the future CM comes out with quicker support for its products. I don't expect things to be perfect off the bat but something as low control speed aren't solved quickly it's hard for me to go to CM again. In addition, I've waited for the trigger to come out for a long time. I just said screw it and went with a bwidow ultimate instead for this current gaming build.

I hope CM doesn't become like Razer where they constantly releasing new products and forget about fixing the old.

Personally I would have liked to have seen the Spawn fixed (there are other issues besides the sensor flaws) before releasing new mice.
