I really want you guys to succeed since you have all the right ideas and build quality. The firmware is the only thing holding it back.

Personally I would have liked to have seen the Spawn fixed (there are other issues besides the sensor flaws) before releasing new mice.
That's exactly how they operate. Spawn isn't getting any support anymore nor new firmwares. This straight from CM. SOURCE I hope CM Carter will correct me if I'm wrong.

Myself and several other people have posted extensively on how the sensor is very finnicky about the surface you use it on. Even when you find one that gives you acceptable tracking and LOD, you'll still have to deal with the uber-low maximum control speed. I hit negative acceleration at 1800 DPI/500Hz (which is the most stable settings) on a black QcK on my desktop.
You are asking for low max speed yourself if you are still using fw 31. Sensor isn't garbage but you can choose it to be that way. What makes you think the most stable setting are 1800CPI @ 500Hz? I'm pretty sure 1800CPI @ 125Hz will be the most stable (test1, test2).

In my opinion fw 32 should be used only with mono black colored mousepads and fw 31 shouldn't be used at all. It's pushed too far, sure LOD is extremely low, but they had to severely cripple image recognition to achieve this effect. If you are experiencing any tracking issues you should stick to "default" fw 30a. If max speed using fw 30a isn't acceptable for you then buy something else. Testing shows the best max speed is at 1800CPI and 125Hz. Personally for gaming I use 1800CPI @ 250Hz which I find acceptable. Spawn has some problems still but I think CM have done some effort to fix it already.

Wow, lots of discussion about this mouse's firmware. Makes me think it's like a tweaker's mouse, much like Android is a tweaker's phone operating system. Looks like I'll wait and see what happens when I get it in a couple of days.

You're right, I don't have the perfect settings for maximizing the max control speed, but the other firmwares have horrible LOD, especially on black pads. The firmware 31 LOD is like 1mm. The other firmwares are 2-4mm (maybe even higher, I haven't tested it thoroughly). Low LOD is very important for my liftoff heavy style.

You should really try fw 32, on black mousepad it will be just like 30a with 2mm LOD (it isn't tracking on 2xCD on my mousepad).

THIS 100%. If you want to get the very best performance out of your Spawn, this is exactly the way to do it.

Firmware 31 works best, assuming you have a mono-black pad. If you dont have one, you should probably get one or use a different mouse. v31 gives the lowest LOD and it tracks at the same PCS as the other versions.

Personally I love the spawn's shape, been using it since it came out in the States. If the xornet sensor turns out to be an improvement (its an improvement on paper, but when is it not!) then I may do a swap.

So since this thread is full of so many conflicting points about the Spawn on the different firmwares, I went and downloaded the pack and messed around with each one.

30a: LOD is quite high on a QcK, considerably higher than the other two, but the max control speed is much better. I still hit negative acceleration with full arm swipes, but only very fast ones and not hugely pronounced.

31 and 32: I could detect virtually no difference between them. The LOD was low and I was hitting negative acceleration on fast wrist swipes (not even using my whole arm). With full arm swipes, I was getting less than half the cursor travel distance than with slow movements.
