Upgrade mobo for 955BE or go all out 2500K

About to buy a Sabertooth 990FX for my 955BE. Putting money into a dead technology always rubs me the wrong way, so what do you think? worth the $250? This will be a gaming computer plain and simple, il be running 2 GTX 460's, even writing this I am leaning to the mobo upgrade, but like I said I hate putting money into parts I don't think are good.

hmmm, buy an 2500k used and a cheap z68 mobo? I spent 275 on my mobo and cpu that way

Upgrading the mobo for your cpu wont really improve performance. Sell it and put the profits towards intel

Get a 2500k.

i have a 990fx sabertooth board and i cant complain OC'ing is pretty straight forward on it.
if your buget is holding you then yeah 990fx but if you have the money just wait till the ivy bridge gets released and go that route. Oh and where are you shopping i got my 990FX board for 189.99 with a 25 rebate

I love all of the 2500k. post and no explanation to why you should go that route. Honestly wait till ivy drops and then upgrade and make due till then is the best route. instead of pissing 250$ away to kick your self in the shin when they are released in jan.

well at high resolution the CPU doesn't really matter. bf3 proved that basically all quad cores run similar FPS's.

so to answer your question, i say don't do buy a new mobo unless you're buying a new CPU to go along with it.

Unless you want to be an OC champion, get the 2500k. coming from someone with a Crosshair V formula and a 955BE
post #8 of 19
I'd say get the CHV.

955BE dead tech? this is a very popular cpu that gets the job done and does not break the bank.Easy to get stable at 3.8,all around great performers. If the 955 is dead tech what is the Q6600,lots of people very happy with socket 775 and it is way more "dead" than AM3 gear.

I enjoy my 955BE very much, its not dead in that sens, its dead like putting a body kit on an 85 Honda Civic
