I have this conspiracy theory, feel free to pass it along ;-)

The 2700k is the demise of high clocking low voltage 2600k chips. All of the dies that hit the 3.9 frequency at some arbitrary voltage get labeled as 2700ks. Those that don't are 2600ks. Intel then gets to sell its previously "normal" 2600ks for more money. If my theory is true, then anyone who buys a 2600k that was produced since they started manufacturing 2700ks has less of a chance of getting a golden chip. I'm already seeing anecdotal reports of more and more less than stellar 2600ks. I can apply this situation in reverse to my 930 DO. Its not stable at 4.0 with voltage at 1.25. However, that was more than enough voltage for early DO 920 and 930s. My late DO could be not so good because all the best were becoming 950s. Anyway, just a theory.

This pretty much, and its nothing new. Not sure why everyones surprised. Maybe not exactly like that but they get tested and the ones that pass certain tests get labeled 2700Ks, the rest are still 2600Ks. This has been done for years.

Some people would gladly pay a premium to have a higher chance to clock higher. It might not be worth it to you, but it is to them.

I'd like to see the majority of 2700k owners say the same thing. rolleyes.gif
