Unlcoking my bios help

Thread Starter
So I have search for the past 2 hours and found a few guides but seemed a bit dated.. I don't know if I am missing where a new guide should be or if there is one... But was just curious if there is in fact a new updated guide?
I have 2 of these cards atm

http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0367140

I was told I could possibly unlock these cards.. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Yes, the procedure/chance of unlocking is still the same.

Take a look at these:

pestypest,

While I'd completely trust Ken1649, as he seems VERY knowledgable and helpful in about Graphics cards ... I just have to say trust me this one time

Your Sapphire 6950 DIRT3 edition card is the kissin' cousin to my Sapphire 6950 TOXIC edition card, and BOTH cards are alike in that Sapphire has done 99.9% of the work for you and already installed the Unlocked 1536 Shaders on the 2nd DUAL BIOS on the card, all you have to do is follow my Simple Step-by-Step guide to see if your card will Unlock or not ...

Step-by-Step Guide to Un-Locking a DUAL BIOS Card w/ Switch, Thanks to LA_Kings_Fan

Step 2 - You can install the CD software, but to be honest the WIN 7 driver the system auto loads for you should work too, so you could skip to Step 3 I guess ?
Step 3 - With things running, install GPU-Z and/or TriXX software or both ... then open the programs to review the Factory defaults of your card, note shaders and Core clocks etc.
Step 4 - In GPU-Z or TriXX SAVE your factory BIOS of the card. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP. You might just need it in case something goes wrong and need to reinstall the factory BIOS file in case position #2 Unlocked BIOS FAILS, and flipping the switch back to position #1 won't reload the original BIOS for some reason. THIS shouldn't happen, but better SAFE and SAVED than sorry and SOL.
Step 5 - Shut Down Windows and turn off your Computer.
Step 6 - FLIP the little Dual BIOS switch near the back plate / SLI Bridge area to position #2.
Step 7 - Turn on Computer and reboot up.
Step 8 - Re-open TriXX and/or GPU-Z and check your Shaders ... if it's 1536, CONGRATS your card UNLOCKED and you have a HD-6970 now no BIOS FLASH required it's ON the card from Sapphire ... if it's still 1408, Bummer dude no Factory Un-Lock , you could still then try FLASHING it to Unlock it, but YES this can be slightly risky and CAN void your warranty if you BRICK the card by Flashing it, most likely you have a card that Will NOT unlock, remember it's NOT Guaranteed.
You can either STOP there, or you can try to OverClock your DIRT3 manually to match the HD-6970's 880 core / 1375 memory clocks. Or OPTIONALLY, you could also FLASH your card using one of the Guides Ken1649 linked you to.

Personally I'd flip the switch using my step-by-step above and see what GPU-z or TriXX tells you after that and then report back ... because IF your DIRT3 does NOT unlock the shaders it might be due to it having the Laser cut Antilles GPU chip on it, and therefor FLASHING will be a waste of time as well. GPU-z will tell you if your DIRT3 card has the CAYMAN or ANTILLES GPU on it.

Good luck

Ok as I was reading through those links I was given I came across one that is basically the same situation as me. Guy was in Xfre, flipped the switch and one showed as unlocked and other didn't... Now is this because they are in xfire mode and no installed singly? Or is just one is unlock able and the other isn't?

So far 1 showed to unlock but still at stock clocks... and other nothing.. hmm

Thanks!

What I forgot to mention is that I did try to flash one of the cards with a SAPH bios.. it gave me a fail ID or something... had to hard reboot..

I would suggest you Unlock and OC each card ONE at a time ... but that's me.

I take it you didn't FLASH the cards yet ... so can you post a GPU-Z or TriXX screen shot of EACH card ? Let's see what you're working with before making further suggestions, because it could be the ONE card won't Unlock if it has the Antilles GPU on it ...

POST a GPU-z for each card please

EDIT = And I'll look at it / help you more in the morning ... going to bed now though nite.

Try to reset CCC, in upper right corner select "Restore Factory Default" then Restart PC. Verify using GPU-Z, if the shader didn't change, it's probably laser cut and nothing else you could do.

I tried to flash one card.. but it said failedID or something and had to reboot.. this was going off some of the dated stuff thus causing me to ask questions I know have been answered many times lol

card 1
card 2

both are on stock atm.. I can shut down and retake again with bios 2 loaded if you want?

No, unlock or not has nothing to do with crossfrire configuration. The other card which is non-unlockable either shader laser-cut or flash loacked or both.

That's fine to run one unlockable shader and one locked shader in crossfire.

One last thing you could try, is to copy the BIOS of the other unlockked Dirt3 BIOS then flash it to the other one. If fails, do not attempt further trying to unlock it with other 6970 BIOS. There's nothing more could do about it at a user-level.

Just crossfire them (locked + unlocked) and will not have negative impact on performance. Overclock to 6970 clocks if you like and be happy with it.

Locked & Unlocked shaders.

Ok, so just load up the the card that is unlocked atm and copy that bios 2? Then flash that via which is the best method to flash it?

Nothing has changed. Use a bootable USB drive with the Dirt3 unlocked BIOS and flash it using "atiflash".

Follow this and make sure to download the latest version of "aftilash".
